    Harvester vs. Feller Buncher?

I want a leveling Deere 759 with a quadco 5660 CTL head. Best of both worlds. Bunch for the grapple, process @ the landing. Quadco tells me they can upfit the 5660 with an accumulator arm so building head loads is possible. Would more or less eliminate the need for a loader slasher.

    Big hitch of Poplar..

It goes for pulp up in Maine. Not sure of the mill, but they buy pure loads of poplar for more money than mixed loads. I am 46 come April. My dad used to truck wood back in 57-8-9, and he loaded 4' poplar by hand. He'd always go home with a load at the end of the day, and hit the road @ 4AM...

    Big hitch of Poplar..

I never heard a tree quack. Well, I did once, but that was chemically induced.:msp_w00t: Always known it as poplar. Or, as dad called it, "popple".

    Big hitch of Poplar..

Took this dandy out a few weeks back. Front tires kept coming off the ground on me till I got to where it sits in the pic..it's a slight incline. I think I counted 14 trees in that hitch. And one of me, glamour shot in the mirror..

    logging in ireland..including a 395 xp ruined

Alan, in the one picture, I see trees rubbed up at the base. Why for? Thanks for the pictures! One day, I want to go see the Emerald Isle and after that, Scotland. I have Irish, Scot, Welsh, and plain old English in me, with some Norse too. I think I would never want to leave if I get there..

    Spencer Loggers Tape

I bought one this past July. Dissapointing. It has had the pin that holds the snap fall out..then the entire tip fell off...the tiny rivets came out, letting the clear plastic cover fall down, and the end to drop off. Fixed both of those things..now, the tape is starting to tear right at the...

white pine price per board feet?

Anyone offering to pay 500 or more for white pine is going to have sexual intercourse with you. And you won't even know it happened until they are gone. IMO, and this is generally speaking, white pine is bringing 320-340 per thousand board feet delivered in to the mill. So, after trucking...

    The Skidder Thread

For a light fast easy to work machine on those small lots, JD 440B. Around here they are between $8K and $12K if they are ready for the woods.

    The Skidder Thread

If you only wanted a real small machine for your own 300 acre woodlot, it might be fine. But for logging as a business, no way. That $55K will buy 50 times more machine.

    Logging Contracts

After you take your money from the stumpage, the trucker takes his, the excavater takes his, your friend takes his, and the sub skidder takes his, the land owner will get zero. There isn't enough money to go around. Not unless there's $70K in wood there. And a farm tractor will get you...

    New Ponsee Scorpion...

Seen that. Just a gimmick, other than you're looking right directly in line with the booms. Sure looks cool, have to admit. But if I had CTL on my mind, in my area, it would have to be a leveling tracked machine like a Tigercat 830 or a Deere 759 or Komatsu 450EXL...with a fixed head...like a...

    The Skidder Thread

You have not truly lived until you have rolled a skidder upside down. Been there, done that. And have had the 648D right to the razor's edge a dozen times. Damn blade won't drop down free-fall fast like the old C5D Twig Farmer did. That fast dropping blade on the Twig Farmer saved my butt...

Oh, and the one I had dolled up was picked up @ my door and delivered back by NH Hydraulics. No charge. How can you beat that?

    The Skidder Thread

I paid $450 or thereabouts to have an arch piston resealed and dolled up a bit. The other side was scored enough to hold a cigarette in the gouge, and I think the rod was bent...and they wanted $1200 to heal it. I thought that was reasonable, but I bought a used one from Heart of Dixie (I...
