    Glove mileage

Hey all, wondering what the census is for durable, long lasting gloves? I prefer leather as I can't stand those cotton/canvas ones sold at Home Depot for $2.00. I usually get Stanley leather gloves at my local Walmart for about $7.00 but I burn em up within about 4 days of use. The wood I...

    Wood Price Survey Time Again

Here in ID, prices are all over the map. I sell wood currently and charge a straight up $140 delivered within a reasonable distance and dumped. I don't stack and most likely never will. My trailer holds exactly 2 cords safely, when STACKED, that's enough practice for me. We have a few different...

    Stacking versus Piling

For me, I just throw it in a pile. Since I was laid off nearly 2 years ago as an Engineer and can't get a job to save my life, I sell firewood for a living. :angry2: Everything I cut is standing dead, so it only makes sense for me to just toss it into either the trailer for delivery or on the...

Who's got the Biggest Baddest Log Splitter

Damn Butch!!! That's way too clean of a tractor to be using in the field. :yourock: Excellent and excellent big guy. I appreciate the love and respect you have for the machinery that works this time, and everytime!!

    What I got going today....

That's well over a cord there, Daddy. Cut it, hook it, split it, stack it and call it honest work then enjoy a beer looking at the stack. Pretty much how I roll.

Big log versus many smaller ones, which yeilds more splits?

Hey curlycherry, thanks for the link. That does put things more into perspective in regards to whole and splits. Thanks all.

Big log versus many smaller ones, which yeilds more splits?

I cut and sell firewood and I've had some thoughts lately about getting the most bang for the buck in regards to trailer load. Bear with me on this, assuming all things being equal like wood species, moisture content, split size, etc. If you could get ONE 4000 pound log versus however many...

I move on. Like mosquitoes, I can't stand ants or bees.

Cool little multi-purpose ATV quad tractor thingy with lots of attachments

I agree with Sawmill....it's going to be spendy to own one, even with just a few attachments or bare-bones. Not that I wouldn't like to work the dog-pi$$ out of one if it was mine.

I learned a few lessons yesterday.

Please oh please, be careful. I don't know your wife's experience with running a machine with a spinning, sharp chain, but ease her into it and teach her right how to handle ANY saw properly and most importantly, safely!! On the rare occasion my wife goes cutting with me, she isn't within 15...

I learned a few lessons yesterday.

Hey NUTNDUN, that 362 will get better after you get about 10 tanks through it. I've never cut Red Oak, but throw an aggressive chain on it and "teach" yourself how that saw likes to be "ran", and you'll be bucking like no tomorrow. But then again, there is NO substitute for CC's.

I learned a few lessons yesterday.

I agree about the 300. I would also mention that back when Jeep was owned by AMC they made the 4.2L 258 cu. in. for many years. It was literally the engine that would last a lifetime if you kept oil in it, as it had a tendency for a unsealable rear main leak.

Two new firewood toys bought this weekend!

I would totally be happy with that splitter. It's not money wasted, it's money earned and pressure off you.

how do u go about start a fire wood cutting bussiness

Amen Steve to your post. I'm not knocking the OP, but in my opinion, if your service and/or product is/are anything like the "EFFORT" you put into your posts, you won't get many repeat customers. Again I mean no disrespect, but do yourself a favor and put some professionalism into your posts...

    The 'beginning of the beginning'

Turnkey, are you cutting green stuff? Why all the wire, fences? Looks like some easy access thankfully. About where in SE WA are you? Kinda looks to me like the Walla Walla or Tri-Cities area?

My first Holz Huasen (Mietz)...and thoughts/ideas

It's a little hard to tell from your pic's but I'm guessing you have 3.5-4 cords there. I'm referring to the center pile that you're standing on. Excellent job by the way....noticed you have the Fiskars SS displayed proudly!!:blob3: Let me ask you this, why such small splits? Thanks for...

    commercial firewood cutting permits

It's all good mtngun, I have areas that provide more standing dead than I could cut in 10 lifetimes. I also recently got acquainted with a stand up Idaho guy here on the forum. He's willing to show me around for some red fir!!! It costs me nothing more than lunch and the opportunity to earn a...

    commercial firewood cutting permits

Slowp, I'm floored to say the least. I will also say you gave me an education in regards to legalities associated with WA. By the way, I lived in Anacortes for 7 years but I wasn't into wood cutting at the time. I wonder why so many rules and regulations for such a renewable resource that as...

    commercial firewood cutting permits

WOW, I guess I should have looked into it a little more. My apologies if I've sent the OP astray. When you said "Our National Forest does not issue commercial permits", I'm guessing you are referring to your state, Washington? I'm really confused though about this bid thing you mention. How...
