    Very beautiful wood! Soft wood though, idk what you are going to do with planks. Gosh though, them colors, there has to be a use for it!

    Anyone know the legality of cutting or milling in old timber sales? I found some unique slices of wood in an old sale I want to go get on a rainy day. This on Minnesota state owned land, but Im wondering about forest service lands too...

    look up epicormic sprouts on google images, im guessing thats what those little knots are. they are just little branches that come out of the trunk, they are dormant buds that sit on the cambium and just grow with the tree, then sprout kinda randomly, or when the trunk gets extra sunlight...

    Cleaning my saw...?

    Been cutting alot of sappy fir for most of the winter, and my saw is getting covered with sap and grime. I am wondering if there is any harm in just going at it with brake cleaner or if that is the stupidest idea? I want to get all the junk out from around the carb and everything.

    Im taking a wild guess that I believe to be totally right. That tree was infected with dwarf mistletoe, and those little spots are the "roots" of the mistletoe. Here are some images I found that might help explain what Im seeing there.
