    Stihl MS251 worth it?

A couple weeks ago I stopped by a trash pile to pick up a Mcculloch chainsaw and I picked up that one plus its twin. I also picked up 2 Stihl MS251 from the same trash pile. I finally got to tinkering with them tonight. The one Mac runs, one 251 runs, the other 251 is missing the starter rope...

    Steel toe boots

I am on my second pair of Schmidts from TSC. I have tried wolverine, cat, Georgia, and others. I'm terribly hard on boots, and finding a pair to last me over 6 months has proven to be difficult. My last pair of schmidts I got 14 months out of. I only bought a new pair because I have a bad habit...

Heavy, yes....there was an earthquake in town lastnight as my balls fell to the ground lifting those big honkers. Yes, they are maple. They yard looked like pasta salad by the time I was done noodling

    Hundreds of trees cut today

Kind of makes one wonder about the upcoming winter. There is all sorts of "lore" out there about the spring seeds and falls seeds and how it sets the stage for the following winter. Jeff

    Work just showed up

Thankfully I live in an older established neighborhood. (actually the same neighborhood I grew up in) My neighbors are very laid back and remember what life was like before I moved back into the neighborhood. The guy across the st has several diesels that he is always working on and playing...

    Work just showed up

I got home lastnight and my wife told me the tree crew stopped by wondering if I was ready for more. She said the load was comparable in size to the load they dropped off. She sent them packing, told them to come back next week. She didn't say what kind of wood it was but, she knows it wasn't...

    Work just showed up

I have been cutting it at night after work, an hour here and 2-3 hours there. I have most of the small stuff cut, just need to work on the big bastards. I'm looking forward to sinking the saw into the trunk piece. I am surprised, the amount of rot is NOT as bad as I thought it would be. I have...

Dirty Hand Tools vs CountyLine 22 ton splitters

Huskee/ Countyline are all Speeco products. Their customer service department is fantastic. I have had a huskee 22 Ton for about 3 years. In that time I have split around 50 cords of wood without missing a beat. I havent used a DHT, but I have looked closely at them at lowes. I think their...

I needed the exercise, the wood had wire in it.

I was cutting down a mulberry years ago at my parents house along the back fenceline. I found a T post. I adjusted the height to try and get above it. I went up in 2' increments...damn thing was 8' tall....talk about being pissed, I couldn't save the chains Jeff

    firewood cart

I have one of those "nursery wagons" with the fold down sides , and I have to say I LOVE mine. I got mine for free about 5 years ago and it was whipped then. I havent done anything to mine other than beat the snot out of it. I have repeatedly loaded mine with wood and it has yet to let me down...

    Any advice welcome

talk to the tree companies in your area, explain your situation. They may be able to supply with you some good leads on where to get logs or even have you come pick up when they are done. Look for good hardwoods---locust oak hickory mulberry ash etc..mix them if you can save your split...

    how big of a splitter

could be as little as 10 tons. You didn't mention how long the beam is, the thickness of the beam. If you could post a pic it would make it easier to gauge what kind of tonnage your pushing. I have seen 8 tons bend a beam, so it's not unheard of Jeff

    Gently used splitter.

is that an old Wisconsin motor on there?
