whats the best all around 40 to 50 cc saw for firewood and light weight,as backup saw

Another 346xp recommendation The 346XP is great all around --it can cut an impressive amount of wood for a lightweight saw. I have an 18” bar on mine and find it is awesome for limbing, and enough power to hold its own bucking most of the wood we see.

    346xp or 357xp

Get the 346XP, it is truly a very well designed saw and lots of fun to run. I have a 346XP and also 372XPW because I wanted the the bigger saw, but for most of my cutting, the 346XP really would be all thats needed to get the job done.

    I hate heating with wood

I have good results burning smaller fires, with the air open more on milder days. Sometimes we have to let it burn out in the morning then re-light later in the day. It does require more attention and work than turning on the thermostat.

Stihl MS 261 VS Husqvarna 346 XP VS Dolmar PS 5105

Practical is not any fun, how can a guy like me make a decision on a saw without reading hundreds of threads that argue over the finer points on each model? The dealers around here know almost nothing about the models, I would be lost without this site. I love the 346XP NE by the way. I...

    Husqvarna 372XP vs 372XPW

Wouldn't the weight difference be negligible if the 372XPW (75cc) is wearing a 3/4 wrap and small dawgs, like a 372XP?

    Best 50cc saw?

Hard to go wrong with any of the top name pro saws. As already said, go to some dealers and check the saws out in person, see how they feel to you and make your own decision. That is what I did when I bought the 346XP last spring, and am very happy with it. Having a close dealer made no...

She likes the heat from the wood stove, so that goes a long way......;)

Using 100ll AV fuel in a 4-mix engine?

Even though 100LL stands for 100 Octane "low lead" it actually contains a large amount of tetraethyl lead. The lead compound does not really burn and leaves large amounts of leads salts in combustion by-products. We have to clean the spark plugs every 25 hours in some airplane engines...

Waiting for Christmas like a kid. Husky from Santa

Well, my new in the box Husky 372XPW (Univent) arrived, but I can’t try it out, or even put gas in it, because my wife and I agreed that will be my Christmas present, so it will be sitting under the tree till Christmas. I have to wait 10 days to start it up for the first time. I feel like...

    chainsaw oil+what in the winter??

Motor Oil (Virgin , not waste oil) I use generic branded motor oil, multiviscocity, seems to work OK in the cold, the regular bar oil gets real thick in the cold.

This website is a bad influence

Hi, I don't post much, but I am here quite a bit, and that is causing the problem. First, even though I had a pretty good but smalll saw, I bought a 346XP in March 2010, to use as my "firewood saw", to heat my house, and planned on it being able to meet my needs, even if it took a little...

    Master Poison Ivy/Poison Oak Thread

I wear a set of gloves with no holes in them, and tear off the hairy vines before bucking the tree. I find they tear off the tree pretty easy if they have been dead for a little while. A cut to the vine with an axe here and there can help. Just be sure you don't touch your face with the...

    346XP Oil Leak

Yes, it is up high, pretty warm up there. I drain the gas when it will be sitting for more than a few weeks, but would rather leave the oil in it. Would leaving the oil cap loose prevent the oil from being pushed out in the warm temps?

    346XP Oil Leak

I have a 346XP NE that is about 6 months old. It has been sitting Since June (in a hot loft above garage), and I just picked it up and found a puddle of bar oil under it. I expect old saws to leak, but is this typical for a 346XP? I do not really care that much, but it means I have to be...

    New Vs Used Saws

Around here, the local Craigslist has mostly the smaller homeowner saws. Only occasionally does a pro saw come up, and guys expect to get almost the cost of new for it. To me, it is no bargain if a guy wants $700 for a used saw that can be bought new for $800. (I just saw a well worn...

    Nik's Poulan Thread

Poulan 2000 RPM setting? Hi guys, Does anyone know the correct no load RPM setting for a model 2000 (2.3 c.i.)? I did a search and also looked through the manual, but no luck. Thanks

Whats the best way to sharpen a chain?

It depends... I have found that in some really hard wood, there will be a noticable decline in performance very quickly. After one tank, the chain is still cutting, but I notice a difference - the "edge" is missing a bit. On the other hand, I have cut green oak where I buck the whole tree and...

Whats the best way to sharpen a chain?

The Dremel works great for me too. A quick kiss every tank or two and the chains stays sharp, it takes very little time. Filing takes more skill than I have to do a good job AND to do it quickly. They make recharable models, or a small inverter at the vehicle, and it works out well in the...

Don?t just trust the dealer to do it right- verify. 346XP

Don’t just trust the dealer to do it right- verify. 346XP Bought a new Husky 346XP NE a couple months ago from a local dealer. I was cleaning and sharpening the saw last night , and took the time to look the bar over. The saw was sold to me with a 0.325/.050 NK chain (“standard” for the...
