Has anyone heard of a skilshop 1716 type 1?

The new bar & two new chains are worth at least $50.00.

    Jonsered Chainsaws

Somebody posted the link in the Ebay/CL thread, I figured it also belongs here. 80-100 Jred chainsaws for $2,500.00/OBO. http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/grd/5814456434.html

Cheap saws that became money pits

If only that were a DA-211, or another model with the same twin cylinder engine.................................. There is a twin-cylinder Distton listed about about 25 miles from me......for.....$1,200.00. That way I could buy the saw and the money pit at the same time .

    "You Suck" Thread 2016--Pics required!

A few years back I missed out on a barely used 395XP for $450.00. I spoke to the guy holding the garage sale for directions because how to get to his small subdivision out in the sticks wasn't clear using Google maps, MapQuest, etc. It was about a 1.5 hour drive one way. As I was about...

    Nik's Poulan Thread

I have a cross cut saw in the garage. It's not one of the really long ones, but has handles for two men. I tried to talk a neighbor out of his when they moved, but he decided to keep it. FWIW some of those old manual saws has some very nice logo designs with detailed graphics on the...

    Mastermind Ported Dolmar 6100

If Randy had $5.00 for each time a similar comment was posted in his I-Ported-This threads......................... BTW I'm guilty.

Will husky 460 parts work on a 455 body

I have no idea, but doing a quick comparison of the IPLs should answer your question. http://www.barrettsmallengine.com/husqvarna/chainsawpartslist.html

Further explanation would be appreciated, photos would be great.

Cheap saws that became money pits

Those are excellent guidelines for avoiding Money Pit saws. I'll add a couple: 1. Very few small saws have worthwhile resale value. A Stihl MS 200T is the only one I can think of that might be worth putting any real $$ into, and even then it would depend on how much $$. 2. Be careful...

Cheap saws that became money pits

My DCS6421 is Home Depot rental saw that wound in a pawn shop. Do the Home Depot stores in your area rent out the DCS6421? You might find a runner for a really good price, or since they are rentals, you might find one with a toasted top end for a ridiculously low price. Maybe buddy up to a...

Cheap saws that became money pits

Yes x 10! I'd be all over an inexpensive p&c kit for the CS-440.

Cheap saws that became money pits

I wouldn't worry too much about buying a new Echo, or a used one in good mechanical condition. Even after my experience with the CS-440 I came very close to buying NIB CS-590, but I happened to find a low hours Makita DCS6421 for about the same price (CS-590 = $200.00 + two hours driving...

Cheap saws that became money pits

Carl, sorry to hear that, but it does make me feel better that I'm not the only one who got caught up in the Echo repair cost vortex  . The only good news is I can use the CS-440 b&c on some of my other saws, and I might get my money back selling it as a parts saw, or maybe see...

Cheap saws that became money pits

My first chainsaw, that I actually owned, is a Stihl 011 AVT given to me by a neighbor. At the time I knew nothing about repairs, and twice paid to have it repaired. Despite it being free, I'm into it for at least $100.00 more than what I could sell it for. I have an Echo CS-440 sitting...

    Nik's Poulan Thread

Back when I joined AS in 2004, on eBay folks had a hard time selling the Craftsman Poulan saws. That's certainly changed.
