Vermeer SC252 Time to Grind 3' Stump

I finished my 8 hours on the machine and finished four of six stumps I was hoping to do. The oaks were easier than the maples, where I did get the nice shavings when going with the grain. The maple was just too big for this machine. It's also the 2nd stump I did and didn't know what to expect...

Vermeer SC252 Time to Grind 3' Stump

After cleaning off that tooth, it looked ok to me too. But I was expecting longer shaving like on a few youtube videos. I was just surprised since this was the biggest machine in my area, and I live in a well populated area. Had to go over 45 minutes away to get the only larger machine they had...

Vermeer SC252 Time to Grind 3' Stump

Maybe I am underestimating the size of the stump. The top was about 3', while the root wood that I'm grinding is a good 4'x8'. The chips are pretty small. See pics. There is some very hard caked on dirt on the teeth which took a while to brush off for this pic. Can't imagine that is affecting it.

Vermeer SC252 Time to Grind 3' Stump

Hi All, Not sure I'll get an answer in time since I need an answer by tomorrow morning, but I'll try anyways... I rented a SC252, and have no previous experience with how powerful these machines should be. How long should it take to grind through a 3' sugar maple stump? I am questioning the...

Suggestions on how to build 4 way wedge

My concern isn't with the wings. I plan to do one tapered edge on the wings. I also plan to angle the wings up just a few degrees to further ensure pieces don't get stuck. I also plan to set the wings back a few inches. What I am asking about is the vertical blade. What sizes of metal to use...

Suggestions on how to build 4 way wedge

I'm looking for suggestions on how to build a 4 way wedge for my Lickity Log Splitter. The splitter is quite old and is nothing like you see nowadays. The wedge is static and is 14" long and 9" high. Due to the size of the wedge I can't find anything that "slips" on that is compatible. I'm...

How do you Answer "Can I borrow your Chainsaw?"

I just moved in to a new neighborhood. My neighbor asked me to borrow my saw Husky 268. Since there's always something wrong with it, I said why not! Figured its a good way to make friends with the neighbor. He then called me randomly a few days later and asked what kind of "supplies" he needs...

Not cutting straight - Replace Bar?

I agree the chain is not perfect. But it's still pretty sharp in my in-experienced opinion. Note, the pics were taken after about 1 hour of cutting after I sharpened. I just can't believe that after I sharpen it the best that I can (I use the filing gauge with the angle marks on it) that it will...

Not cutting straight - Replace Bar?

What kind of equipment does a shop with a bar grinder do they use? I have a bench mount grinder with the standard 1" wide grinder. I was thinking of using that, but wasn't sure how consistent I could make it. However, since I don't notice any type of taper, I can't see taking the bar down will...

Not cutting straight - Replace Bar?

Here are the two pics of pushing on the chain backwards and forward. Again very difficult to see.

Not cutting straight - Replace Bar?

I took some measurements with digital calipers. The bar groove openning is between 0.069" - 0.076". Again this bar is a 0.058" gauge bar. I don't know how much tolerance the bar is supposed to give the chain. I tried to measure the thickness of each bar wall on three different locations...

Not cutting straight - Replace Bar?

I don't know why I didn't think of that. I do have another Poulan but I think it has a 18" bar or perhaps even smaller. If the bars are compatible I will try that. It would be a good test just to convince me this saw can be saved. The Poulan is working great. I'm positive about the gauge. The...

Not cutting straight - Replace Bar?

I have an older Husky 268 20" saw. I have always had the problem where it would seem to stop cutting after the bar was submerged in a log. It would sit there spinning without going any deeper. The wood would start smoking. In previous years, I tried having a dealer sharpen it, and then buying...

Opinions requested: how to remove branch (pic included)

Yes, I apoligize for the terrible picture, wasn't originally intending to take the pic for posting here. zale's a little dramatic, lol. But you never know what type of people are on here, so I understand. I appreciate the opinions. What I got out of it is that it varies depending on the...

Opinions requested: how to remove branch (pic included)

Just looking for some opinions on how to remove this branch that fell. Sorry for the terrible pic [angle]. I'll get a better one if needed. I already removed the part blocking the street. It is now resting on the ground. I have three options: a. Cut the part that split at the very top b. Cut...

Husqvarna 268 won't restart after running

Well I found the solution to my problem - I'm an idiot. My father came over and helped take a look at it. Before installing the carb rebuild kit, he checked the spark plug gap which I assured him I checked before and that it was correct. After checking it again, the gap was 1.0mm, its...

    Lickity Splitter Hyrdaulics Question

Wow, thanks for that great information on the ek308 model! That's impressive that information exists out there. I think I searched the entire internet, and didn't find much. I'll PM my e-mail, maybe you can send the entire document. I did more research, and I believe hydraulic fluid is...

    Lickity Splitter Hyrdaulics Question

Some simple questions for an old Lickity Log Splitter EK308 that my grand-father in law had. I've done some basic work to the Kohler K181 engine, but may need to concentrate on the hyrdaulics a bit. 1. Hydraulic loses most of its power at the end of stroke. So much it won't split most logs...

    trolling for a log splitter

What's the model number of your Lickity Splitter? I have a EK308 outside, that's running decent (posting a new thread for the few issues I do have). Any idea if your model has someway to make the hydraulic so it doesn't retract all the way? The brochure I have from it seems to indicate its...

    Poulan 3400 compression

Can you define a pressure/vacuum test? I think you are referring to a test where you block off the exhaust and carb and pressure (or suck a vacuum) the cylinder to see if it holds. I don't understand how this tells you anything different than a compression test does. Do you use vac or pressure...
