    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

Scrounging fire wood gets easy when strong winds take down a deal elm by the door to my pole barn that I use for my wood shed.

Have people who hunt your woods?

I only have just under 9 acres total so not a lot of woods for hunting. The only effective hunting is stand hunting. I let my neighbor and his step-son hunt on my property. Those are the only ones I let on my land for hunting. I give him all my ashes from my Lopi cause he has a long driveway...

Any one use dryer lint to start fire?

I just made 4 dozen of them today. I have an empty plastic coffee can next to the dryer and toss the lint in there. When it gets sort of full, I make another batch of firestarters

    Mid Winter Shut Down

I only use propane for cooking and a Jotul unit in the basement and I don't use a lot of gas. I also pay a good premium over what larger users pay. Less you use the more you pay per gallon:dumb2:

Post pictures of your woodpile/splitting area

@Jere39 I had a bunch of birch in my wood pile at the beginning of the cold weather that had been under cover, split and stacked for at least 2 years. That was as good as oak and had a nice coal bed the following morning after 8 hours. Solid birch that is split right away after cutting and...

burning plastic, no, wait a moment!

Our township had a single stream recycling system in place that would take almost all plastics. That has changed. We are only supposed to recycle #1 and #2 plastics since there is no market for the other plastics. If it is not number 1 or 2, it goes in the trash.

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

I have been running an insert for over 35 years. We upgraded from an Earth Stove insert to a Lopi Revere insert. The Lopi has secondary burn tubes and it works well for us.
