    Propane vs. Nat.gas

new idea In Europe, where car/truck fuel is much more expensive than here, we may have a clue about our future. There you can fill up with gas, diesel or NG. In the US, forklifts, fleet vehicles & others are NG powered. OEM's are starting to catch on & I think Ford is the only real choice now...

    Hitachi Chainsaws

go to Sears Craftsman $100 for an 18" bar, auto oil. Why bother with twice the price? Money left over for files, chaps....:chainsawguy:

    Fiskars Super splitting axe review

can it handle a Y I'm impressed with your video splitting straight grained rounds with the FSA. Can it handle a Y shaped piece? With my 8lb maul & wedge it usually takes several attempts to get started, then it succumbs, as in the attached pic.

    Fiskars Super splitting axe review

thanks this really beats the 'split inside a car tire' technique & the speed of the FSS is making me rethink a 21ton splitter rental. The 4.25lb head might be a nice alternative to the 8lb maul. Regarding the bungee - how much wear over how long a period? Do I need something (like old...

Chainsaw chaps: How many use 'em?

don't cut without chaps after what I've seen on AS, search 'worst injury' 'safety' etc I've missed some great cutting weather, but my chaps are arriving Monday from Bailey's.

    "Tree of heaven" Take down

nice Thanks for sharing, esp. 11&16. Honestly, how much luck & how much skill did you have on that one? (IMHO it looks like mostly luck with that much rot.) Did you make some exploratory cuts before falling to figure out what was inside?

When to use which of the different style chain saw chains and why?

experiment why not get one of each? personal preference probably has a lot to do with what you'd like in a chain vs what someone else would. It doesn't take that long to change a chain. Just figure out what kind you have & get at least one different style.

    What was your worst injury?

relax This is my safety meeting; the only one I have access to. I use these stories as a reminder of what can happen in case stupid sneaks up on me when I'm cutting. Due to what I've read here, I'm twitching like a junkie waiting for my chaps to arrive on Monday 'cuz I vowed to stop cutting...

any advice for a new saw owner?

now for something completely different I'd add a review of your disability insurance. BTW, I work with many insurance companies & chose refundable DI for myself. Also, read the posts about 'worst injury you've had' & 'weird stuff inside tree'. I found those as helpful as the safety info...

What are the most oddball things you have found inside old trees

not bar oil While cutting thru a jet of what looks like bar oil starts spraying off. Doesn't look like the right viscosity so I keep cutting. Rain water collected inside, colored brown, maybe a gallon. Very entertaining, I just found the bottom of the chamber. Not a problem unless you're using...

    What was your worst injury?

good for a laugh? Well I missed an injury yesterday, so I was happy to stumble upon this thread. I was working in close quarters by 2 sprung trees with a 3rd log ontop of one. Everything looked & felt stable enough. Just before I was about to step in between the trees to finish a cut, the log...
