    An Expensive Tree

Sad to say that's my home state. I'm on the west, good, side though. Never been a U of M fan. Now I have another reason why.

How many times do you touch your firewood?

Yeah, too many times. 1 drop and top trees in woods 2 skid out and block on the ground 3 load in trailer 4 unload and stack 5 into boiler Seems like I move things more than the list implies...

    DIY 3 point skidder winch

Cast aluminum? Well, thats out. Might have a lead on a pto winch out of an old IH Scout. That would probably be just right, size wise. Never though about a boat winch. Thanks Zogger. We've got plenty marinas around here.

    DIY 3 point skidder winch

If you were closer I'd offer to buy it. Save me the trouble of building one. I thought about using a wrecker winch, but they are expensive and seem slow. So, how did the chain drive work? You had a sprocket directly on the PTO spline shaft? Thanks for the info/pics

    DIY 3 point skidder winch

So, I was thinking of making a skidding winch, similar to a Farmi, to put on my Ford Jubilee. My thought was that I could use the rear axle out of a stout old lawn tractor for the winch itself. Input from the tractor PTO to the axle would be the same, and use one of the drive hubs to turn the...

Turning a wood splitter into a can baler

The splitter sounds like its cavitating toward the end of its stroke... maybe why it slows considerably with nothing in it? Might want to check your fluid. Great job!

    My new trailer

No drop on the truck side. The trailer was just put together goofy from the get go.

    My new trailer

I need to lower the trailer hitch, not the truck hitch. You can see in the pick that it is nose low. It is stout. Two 6000 pound mobile home axles. There is no way I can overload this trailer. I might try though...

    My new trailer

Bought this over the weekend, and used it first thing to finish cleaning up a maple I'd taken down a couple weeks back. I think I'm gonna like it. I need to move the hitch down about 6 inches to level it out better, and put some new bushings in the leaf springs, but otherwise it should do well...

    Firewood bucking/splitting rate

Ok, bowing back in... I'm glad blackdogon57 spelled it out, even though I doubt it did any good. I'll bet everyone listed (logger, driver, students, etc.) did appreciate having someone hire them for the job they performed. Trickle down at its best. I know if I'm looking for work on the side...

    Firewood bucking/splitting rate

I'm going to bow out of this conversation before the thread gets hijacked. Besides, I can't make you un-drink the kool-aid.

    Firewood bucking/splitting rate

How is that the short end of the deal? If there is a guy willing to work for "x" price then the market is fair. If "x" is too low then the boss wouldn't find help, and would pay a higher rate. If the laborer wants to make the money of the boss, then he would also need to assume the risk.

    atv skidding

I agree with zogger. You can put a pretty good pile of wood on the racks of a quad. Throw a ratchet strap over to keep them in place and go. This is what I've done the last couple of weekends.

Stihl 026 fuel leak and tuning issue

I'd try the $.50 worth of fuel line to start. If that doesn't work, then rebuild the carb. If fuel is leaking, its likely the fuel line. Had it on my 290. Fuel line was actually something like $8 for the stihl pre-formed thing. Not sure what the 026 line looks like.

    Water treatment for OWB

Oil floats on water. I fail to see how that could prevent rust throughout the system.

    placement of owb

I guess it would depend on whether your unit is natural draft, or forced draft. I don't see the limb being a real problem either way with the boiler burning. The limb(s) would probably die from the smoke though.
