This morning, my buddy calle me and told me.

Man that could have been any one of us East County Boys. I always use fall arrest in knuckle booms, most SD rental yards wont rent without them. Thanks to AS, I know to use it every time.

Cut by saw that was not running.

For those of us on trail crews, the shoulder carry wont work, there is always something else that needs carrying. Easiest way is to scabbard& cover it and hang it off the day pack. For bigger saws (044/372) and up, we use specialized saw packs. They work great. Of course I can see how if a...

Do you take your hand off the saw?.....

Thanks for all the responses! Hi guys, thanks for what you have posted here, not only does it help with this issue of braking before moving on , but it gives "street cred" to the fact that pros work safely and take precautions.

I can't be the only person who ever thought of this...

We use the hedgers a lot in trail maintenance. Hi Mad' we use them a lot, especially since the Cedar fire, because now we have ceanothus everywhere!

Stacked Wedges - Does anyone do it like this?

Less chance of the wedges slippin on each other? I guess it would depend on how hard and dry the tree is ? Looks like extra work to me. What do I know, i still use steel in big wood or on steep slopes.

why all the short bars on saws in this site ?

Mountain Bucking of BIG Hazard trees... SmokechaserIIade a good point, sometimes when we work on big blowdowns on steep slopes in hazard situation the Long Bars are MANDATORY for safety reasons. We dont even want someone on our crew STANDING or walking around on the downhill side of some...

    Avocado Plant

Probably nothing wrong with that Tree Nanette.... I could walk down the road to wife's cousins orchard and show you a lot worse on trees planted and grown in the style of a professional grower from Fallbrook CA which is an Avo heaven! Just remember they need GOOD drainage and it is easy to...

    A Bucking Question

That should be Cut "spanners" totally flat on the ground is a different kettle of fish then, isn't it.

    A Bucking Question

Maybe this will help explain how to but "spanners" ?? ...of get me flamed/razzed LOL. If the problem you are having is bucking a piece that spans a low spot or goes from a high bank down to a roadbed or trailtread here is one way to do it. Sounds more complicated than it is. Of course size...

    Show off your crummys!

Hey RandyMac, nice Old CDF photo... Looked like half the guys I went to HS with! Old IHs were awesome trucks. I think the GMC had a 352 V6 as well IIRC , it was a torque monster. Cal State park Rolling stock these days is pretty high falutin, crew cab f350 for our trail crew or Cummins...

Michigan man dead after tree he was cutting fell on him

Treemandan, FYI on "Mexicans" I would like to please remind you that " Mexican " is a nationality and/or "racial" group, and as such includes doctors, lawyers, and other high falutin types. If you only see uneducated laborers where you live so be it, but using Mexican as a synonym for lower...

Tree Worker Knocked Out Of Lift..... Falls 40 Feet To The Ground

I was stupid about fall arrest at first too. When I think about the first few times i used a lift and did not use/secure the fall arrest I shudder! Ignorant and untrained back then, now I am all about the safety!

    2008 Fireline Fatality Report

One thing I agree with Newsawtooth on Hi NST, thank you for your reasoned response to first post, which had a tad too much of a damn the torpedoes to it. Having just re-read Fire on the Mountain, about the West canyon Fire on Storm king mountain, I see better where you are coming from...

    2008 Fireline Fatality Report

Why should investigation inhibit cooperation/ To the gentleman who initially said that prosecution would/will inhibit cooperation with investigation: ONLY if you work with moral-less liars who see incorrect things done, do nothing to protect their crewmate, and seek to hide their...

Hi Roger, some observations Zero-th off, EPIC vid quality, super nerd points for that!! First off, good job, pretty good saw handling for a homeowner. In regards to what others said: I would like to reinforce the importance of looking up, and keeping all horiziontal cuts level, and...
