Fell 30 Feet Out of The Tree Today...

Vt? Hey guys. My knowledge of friction hitches doesnt run very deep. Is there an online resource (illustrated) I can check out? I started with the tautline, then used the Blake's, then used my own knot-3 wraps up then underneath the "bridge" with the tail and tucked it under the middle wrap...

    HELP! Maple tree problem.

I totally agree! You could plant a couple different species and have an equal or greater canopy within a few years. Let a local arborist do the work.

advice on huge wound on maple

safety measure The tree seems to be compartmentalizing ("healing") fairly well. There does seem to be more than meets the eye to the left of the wound. The trunk's stability is compromised however, and I gather that the canopy is healthy. Cell division is the slowest in trunk tissue, and...

    A request

Keep a healthy fear. I truly am thankful for this post and those who are like-minded. I was blessed to learn arboriculture/climbing (initially) from two of the best all around arborist this area has ever had. I learned early on to NEVER make a mockery of safety (after having done so)...

Made my own Air Spade today

Awesome! Sounds like a marketing opportunity to me. Perhaps a set of training wheels with an adjustable depth for ergonomics.

Made my own Air Spade today

Dude, that is bad ass! I had written off having one a long time ago. Thanks for the new "tinker project". My periodic excavations for suspected girdling roots will be a breeze (get it?).Ha Ha.

Grinding down depth rakers. Bad idea?

Your back might still be "up to it" if it wasn't taking all the premature wear. I was thinking about all of the unnecessary abuse my shoulders and wrists(and back) have taken. I think most of my youthful pee and vinegar has been sweat out. Enough can be a wonderful thing sometimes. Even with...

Grinding down depth rakers. Bad idea?

So my question is....other than kickback what other problems can this cause? It cuts so good when I wear this chain out(almost there) I am thinking of grinding off the rakers from the get go. You'll shoot your eye out kid! Gradual is the way to go. One instance of fatigue or...

Can someone tell me what I should have done?

Basically, before you cut into anything , size it up first. Your hemlock was trying to suplex the maple (so to speak) causing tremendous upward tension(like a fishing pole) on the maple trunk (creating a "springpole"). You created the weak link and super-sick-crazy energy released. Dude! you...

    climbing with spurs and without.

That would be a solid investment, I think. Even the natives would see the integrity of your business and I'm sure attract some solid clientele.

Watching you move so good without them makes him think your working too hard?

Cutting trees wider than the bar length

I can def finitely relate bro. I used to keep the 16" bar on my 20T in the tree thinking it was to my advantage, but the 14" is the way to go for surety of release when I want it to. I don't rope out a lot of the stuff I was hesitant to "finesse" with the boggable 16". I have to add though...

Need help on building a bench!

Some convenient accessories that help me out are the magnetic tray, a turn-table(especially for dismantling), and a snake-light or headlamp. OH yeah, dont forget an exhaust fan.

    Dolly

I've grown tired of my inflatable one:greenchainsaw:. Seriously though, I'm saving some "scrap" material and plan on fabricating one that will have some versatility. It is still a daydream though, my OCD hasn't taken over yet. Anyone tried or familiar with a project like this?

    Chain sharpening issues

I've softened the pitch of my sharpening on troubled chains and had some smoothing.
