    Replacing my Hot Blast 1400

So you must not be using the factory design if you can shut the air off. Also to get the smoke burning you need to get a hot fire going first, otherwise it just puts out unburnt smoke because it isn't hot enough to ignite. The new stoves only put out good heat in the first part of the burn...

Oh C'mon already, enough is enough!

Excuse to upgrade the truck, I have been having a blast in this snow. I've been looking for excuses to head out to my stream so I can use ample sources of throttle application. Keep coming down snow.

    Is your stove keeping up?

Correct, can't wait to get home. Last 2 days thermostat has said 44. Not burning any propane though since the furnace isnt hooked up :D

    Is your stove keeping up?

Where can I signup for free heat? Englander 30, heating 1700sqft, not keeping up. If we let it do 8hr cycles, mid 40's to low 50's in the house. If we burn it hot and constantly stuff fresh logs in, then I can get into the 60's. We are constantly dumping coals since 200-300F heat is doing...

What is the best style stove, EPA, CAT, down drafter, one with a grate

That kind of worked on our Napoleon, doesn't work at all on the Englander, all you do is send the heat up the stack and get nothing usable. When you get down to a bed of coals with a 200-300F stovetop, it's useless for heating a house from a single room. I'd like to see a primary air tube...

    Napoleon 1400 Stove for Sale

Previous owner had this stove installed, but he wasn't heating the 100yr old house with just the stove. I am trying to do 100% wood so I upgraded to a larger stove. This was installed in 2009. I am in SW Mich, east of Grand Rapids...

Best chain advice for MS362 25"

I ran a normal semi chisel but you need a light touch even in softwoods with that length of bar on that saw. Also crank your oiler all the way up.

    A better explanation...

I can't heat the house because of the coals. IF I try to run the stove at mid level heating capacity all that happens is I end up with 8-12" of coals. I can't put wood in, the coals aren't giving off enough heat but to keep the stove steel at about 200 degrees. I burn on low and get an 8hr...

    Wood-Fired Electricity?

If you search for TEGs or Thermoelectric there a few different ones out there. I've looked at some smaller ones just so I could recharge or power some small things during outages in the winter.

    A better explanation...

I use outside air and still get a ton of coals. I use a Napoleon 1400 that is supposed to heat a larger house, it works fine at about freezing temps. After that all I do is layer up, as when it is down in the single digits the house is in the low 50's running the stove all day. I'm going to a...

    New stove search

I am interested the grates for air getting under the coals, instead of just the top. I think the ash drawer I have makes just as much dust as scooping them into a bucket. I haven't used any propane for heating this winter either, the furnace is dead and hasn't been fixed yet. House temp has...

    New stove search

This cold snap has put me over the edge, it's time for my Napoleon 1400 to start looking for a new home. The stove was put in by a PO in '09, I've been using it since '10. It just doesn't put out enough heat for my old house that is 1700sq ft, nor get an overnight burn once we get below...

Blaze king how does it work

Assuming you have an EPA stove how do you keep it full of fresh wood? If I do anything besides a low burn I just end up with a firebox full to the brim of coals, or low burn and the house is cold. Even though I have a pretty new stove I keep looking at models with a larger firebox to get over...

Cold Enough?? What's your temperature today?

-6F this morning, 48F in the house. I really wish I had a bigger stove.

    Over-fire

On my Napoleon I will overfire it if I bump one of the top pieces of "cement" like bricks with the wood. They won't fall back into place and it can scream along. I hate only having an input control. Otherwise I have the fire going at at least 700 when burning half way open on the weekends...

Post pictures of your woodpile/splitting area

Here's my mess for this year, you can't see the woodshed that has 10 cords split and stacked already. The car needs to be moved to the scrapyard, we used it to practice with the JAWS.

    The Ethanol SUCKS thread....

I don't think any of the manufactures could give a rats ass about anything but current production just like the gov for mandating it. It's a joke to put something out, and give no one a choice, that can ruin engines from the past 10 yrs or sooner.

Anybody scrounge from the powerline cutters?

Even in our poor and podunk county we have the plat maps online through each counties webpage. Nice, "free", and up to for the most part up to date.
