    The unofficial Mac 10-10 thread

Thanks for all the advice! I figured out what ailed the old 10-10, FYI it is a short cover model, and looks to have had very little use. It ran and started very easy, just couldn’t figure the spitting gas and running rich, until I ran across a similar thread on here, I decided to check and...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

I have a 10-10 question for you guys deep into these wonderful saws. I have a later model short clutch cover with chain brakes model pro Mac 10-10. It is in real good shape, on a compression test pulled 175 psi in about 4 pulls. I put a K10SDC kit in the carb, as it ran, but was rich and...

    661 vs 390/395xp

I just bought a 395XP new, (PHO). Going to run my Turbosawmills M6 mill with it. I was persuaded to the 395 over the 3120, more parts availability and overall better service in the long run. I had a dual port muff put on to wake it up a bit. I will let you know how it does. I have never been a...

    Stupid newbie question?

You might check into the fine print on any stihl warranty, I think using a saw to mill with is outside the scope of the warranty. I would get a dolkita or echo 60cc or thereabouts as a minimum size for milling. I have used several of my old McCulloch 10-10's(54cc) and homlite super xl's (58cc)...

    Not much response

Looking into the Logosol methodology, that is a mill system that can produce good results for not a lot of money, way less back work than an Alaskan style CSM, and darn near as fast as a BSM. My woodland Bumblebee mill is very fast too. I can mill a log almost as fast as a comparable sized BSM...

Logosol m8/big mill vs trad. ASM

Nothing beats the portability of a bolt on the saw Granberg, Alsakan Mk III or a Logosol Timberjigg. I have used both extensively, and I like both. The Logosol system is mor efficient, but costs a little bit more. If you want to have even more precision, the Big Mill system added to the...

What saw is the best? Husky, Stihl, McCulloch, Homelite, Echo, Pioneer, Dolmar?

McCulloch was the best for years, way ahead of their time. As far as current production saws, I would say Echo and Dolkita and Husky, in order of my preference. I am not a stihl guy. When I get them, I fix them and sell them. I do own an 075 for my "big saw" though. Price was right...

    MS362 for milling

It will do ok. Especially if you set it up to mill with low profile narrow kerf chain. I use stihl's 63PMX "picco" chain on my 372XPW and have milled about 10,000 bd ft with it.

best mill to start out with?

Baileys has the timberjigg by Logosol on sale now for 139. The timberjigg is a good setup, but geared more toward smaller logs and dimensional lumber. The Alaskan mk III is a good mill. I have had both, I sold my timberjigg as I upgraded to the bumblebee sawmill. I still have the Alaskan for...

Recommended saw size for max 20-25" bar Panther mill 2/alaskan

Let me qualify the prior stAtement. The kerf is 30% smaller with low profile chain. With a 70cc saw it speeds up the feed rate in a given current by 30%. I used 3/8" chain before switching to picco chain and saw this increase in feed rate first hand. If I didn't have a 70 cc saw, I would use at...

Recommended saw size for max 20-25" bar Panther mill 2/alaskan

I have an 075 and several 70cc and smaller saws. I like the power of the 075 for wide cuts, but if you are going to be doing dimensional milling, rather than all stabbing cuts, a 70cc saw works just fine. Larger is better if you can afford it. One way to keep performance to optimum if you don't...

Sawmill on the Farm - worthwhile, or nah?

If you don't over buy on the mill side, you will definitely come out just in the money saved on the lumber you consume in your own operation. The problem could come in that if you have some highly figured wood and you just mill it and sell it as fence lumber, you are really short selling your...

    Norwood or Woodmizer?

One thing I think is a plus on the Norwood side, is that they ship the mill disassembled, so by the time you put it together and set it up, you have an intimate knowledge of the mill, which will come in handy when it comes time to have to fix anything. Woodmizer has name recognition, but I like...
