    Lousy fireplace installers-Need Mike Holmes

I don't mean to hi-jack your thread, but I am in the same boat, and just realized this today. The contractor who installed my chimney did an overall decent job except for connecting my stove to the support box in the ceiling. I orginally ordered double walled telescopic stove pipe, but the guy...

    Finished Englander 30 install

The stove actually came with both legs, and the pedestal from the factory. I decided on to leave the pedestal on it because of the type of stone I used for the top of the hearth. I was worried that when I set the stove where it needed to be for propper flue placement between the rafters the legs...

    Finished Englander 30 install

Just finished up installing my new stove this afternoon, and figured I would share a few pictures. Since it is not very cool here in Indiana today, I built a small fire to help cure the paint, and the stove is cooking along at about 425 degrees. This has been a huge project for me, and I am glad...

Worst Wood to Split by Hand?

Elm is at the top of my list, followed by sweet gum. Finally got through my last elm round the other day, Thank God ! My Fiskars wasn't up to the task of splittin the concrete wood, had to use a wedge, and 10# sledge. :givebeer:

    Craigslist score !!!

Good advice...... I was planning on just biteing the bullet, and renting a splitter for a day, since I also have some concrete wood (elm) that needs split as well. I am thinking about buying me a splitter come tax season, but have not yet made up my mind.

Hey there everyone ! I hope ya'll have enjoyed this holiday weekend as much as I have. The weather here in Southern Indiana, has just been perfect the last few days with lows in the 50's. I took advantage of the cooler weather to head out back in the woods to buck up some trees that had been...

    Leaf ID

I spent the afternoon yesterday roaming the woods behind the house in search of some downed trees, and came across two that I am not sure what they are. Anyone have an idea to what these are from ? I am thinking the one on the right may be sugar maple ?

    Fiskars Super splitting axe review

I bought a Super Splittin axe from Amazon a few weeks ago for $33, and it is stamped made in Finland. I also have the pro splittin axe from Fiskars, and have been using that for some time now, but the heavier super splitter certainly has it's place for me depending what kind of wood I am cuttin...
