    Thank you Big Shot

Wowthat is a bean pole! I wouldnt want to climb it dead. Tug and pull was my favorite method of dropping trees. I dropped some monsters. If you get a line high, it is amazing how much leverage you can get and how easy it is to pull a big tree. I got a picture somewhere of a 7' cottonwood we...

    Small setup

Good idea in theory. However a couple of obstacles to overcome that you may not have forseen. Tongue weight on a bumper pull trailer will be high, very high. Gooseneck would work but then you loose the truck for chip space. Turntable idea is a good one. Chipping from the side on the curb...

    Advertising Help..

I know others have said to aviod the yellow pages if you are just a solo guy BUT... If you advertise some tree services such as trimming or removals and get set up with a good outfit, you could trade them the removal and trim work for more stumps. Of course make sure you are with a good outfit...

    First o.s.h.a. inspection

One of the last years I did trees, I think it was 2004, OSHA was cracking down around the front range in Colorado. Guess they are still up to it.

Big Beaver ReTREEver Anybody know anything??

Looks similiar to something I concieved of many years ago. However, in the end I didnt have the money to even think about doing anything with the idea. This is quite different in someways still. Reminds me of a fellerbuncher, just it reaches up and takes it the tree in sections instead.

    filling cavities with foam?

If support is want you want, I hear concrete with a few sticks of rebar are the ticket. Although it doesnt flex worth a darn.

    ripping wood?

Cut them in blocks about 6" shorter than the length of your chainsaw bar. You want the tip of the bar to be sticking out a bit of the other end. If you are right to the tip it will be much tougher as the sawdust will want to clog the top too. Firewood is a good length. Then rip with the...

    Help Don't Know

Price should vary somewhat. $2-$4 is common. If the tree stump is very large diameter, say 5 ft accross the face, than I would go closer to $4. If it's a bunch of 10-15" stumps then $2 isnt too bad as these are 5-10 minutes guys dependant on equipment.

    Dogs Who Climb Trees

Neat. It would appears dogs are evolving into monkey's. But if a dog evolves into a monkey, is a dog or a monkey?

    Biggest equipment and .....

They sure have gotten expensive then, even it that is canadian dollars. When I got my BC1800 in 98' the top of the line vermeer tub grinder was right about $500K. 96,000 lbs and what a pain to transport I bet. Over weight and needing special permits and all.

Customer says; Would you do a little extra?

Actually, they get asked to do more work that anybody. I did this a dozen eyars ago. Most people think because you have a lawn mower you dont mind pulling weeks, trimming trees or cleaning gutters. When I did trees, I never had a problem with people askign more. My theory is, if it took more...

I think my tree has been poisened, can anyone advise me?

The difference lies in the fact they cant afford or are unwilling to pay to have it removed but gave him permission at his expense to remove it. However if the tree dies then they will be stuck removing it attheir cost.

    Putting a Feed Wheel on a C&D

Here is a couple key questions: 1. Can you do 90% iof the fab and welding yourself? 2. Does the machine already have an adequate supply of hydraulic fluid? -- If you can do the Fab you will save a lot! Otherwise it wouldbt cost effective. To mcuh design and engineering time...

    employee cimbing gear

Makes sense to me. Although if it were me, and if they stuck around quite some time and used the gear a lot, I would let them have it if they left on very good terms.

    Your never to old

Last year I was helping a friend, who owns a tree company, haul his elk out of the woods. I will be darned if this old cowboy who was easily in his 60's did show me up. He grabbed a front elk quarter all by himself and swing it over his shoulder. He was about 5'9" and 150 lbs. Not sure how...

    I Need training

Just takes practice. Never heard of a class. Heck, I bet a local tree company would love to pay someone $5 an hour for someone to grind stumps. At least this way you get paid if you mess up a machine it isnt yours. Often grind from 2 or 3 different angles on medium or bigger stumps so the...

    $15,500 for a used Vermeer 1000xl??

Doesnt sound too bad. When I quit doing trees I sold my 96' Vermeer 1800 with 650 hrs for $14,000 in 2003. I wish I would have kept but didnt real need it anymore. It was a fun toy for sure! Surprised what a tough time I had selling it.
