    Milling bar for Jonsered 920

NuggyBuggy, I did not get a longer bar yet, the big fir trees I was hoping to mill did not work out so put the purchase is on hold for now. Not much more advise to offer except that some claim a Homelite mount will fit the 920. There was a hardnosed 36" bar for sale a while back on ebay which...

Any pointers for drilling (milling) holes in bars for modified alaskan mills?

I have also been trying to find info on drilling bars, I thought it was me not searching properly. One question, what size hole should you drill through the center of the sprocket bearing and are there any tips on not harming the bearing? thanks.

    Doug Fir milling question

Thanks for the replies. I will be using them as posts so will plan on building shortly after I cut them. For interest sakes, how much will a 6x6 shrink over time?

    Doug Fir milling question

Thanks for the reply TraditionalTool. I would like to get the most lumber out of this tree so will be cutting into quarters and leave out center, I am assuming this is what you mean. A little shocked that it will take 5-6 years to dry. Do you see major concerns if I built with these timbers...

    Doug Fir milling question

I am new to milling and have only milled a couple of cedar logs. I have a fir tree that is coming down and would like to mill 6"x6" x 12 ft timbers. The tree is 28" at base, approx 60 ft tall and the first 30 ft is straight with no branches. Are there any considerations when milling to get the...

    Milling bar for Jonsered 920

Thanks for the reply Mtngun. A couple of more questions/recommendations: A 36" bar will fit a 30" mill? (I like the sound of that) .050, .058 or .063 guage? Skip or full comp chain? I plan on milling mostly cedar and doug fir. Thanks.

    Milling bar for Jonsered 920

I'm new to milling and milled my first log the other day using a recently aquired J 920. It was impressive but now realize I need a longer bar to fit my 30" Alaskan mill. These bars aren't very common but managed to find a 30" Carlton hard tip in .063 for cheap. Can anyone give me a comment on...

    Pioneer P26 clutch problem

Thanks for the info guys. Although I'm not an expert tuner by any means, I think the saws is running close to idle speed. I have not run the saw through wood yet and will definately do that. Pioneerguy600 are these parts still available new or is it best to go to a used saw parts guy?

    Pioneer P26 clutch problem

I had this saw given to me and after a carb kit, cleaning up, etc it seems to run really well. Compression seems good as well. Problem is the chain won't stop turning at idle speed. The clutch is appears melted or worn. Not sure this would make the clutch engage at idle speed. Looking for some...

    Sharpening Critique Please

Thanks for the responses. I don't have a saw that this chain fits on or I would try it. This is my practice chain to mess up. I have a sharpening business and need to make sure I have the neccessary knowlege and technique to properly sharpen chains. I purchased the Silvey 510 grinder which seems...

    Sharpening Critique Please

I just got my new grinder and started practicing on a .325 chain that was given to me. The chain appears to have been sharpened with too large a file (I think). The new sharpened profile is substantially different and would like some critique of the attached pics. Grinding wheel is 1/8 with 1/16...

    Jonsered 920 air filter

Made filter mount out of thin wall 1.5"x2" rectangular tubing, top edge cut at same angle as cover. The bottom edge is ground slightly to fit in groves of stock mount. Welded a 2" washer to top and drilled center out to 1.25". Inside there is a tab welded with a hole to accept stock intake bolt...

    Jonsered 920 air filter

I know there are a few on this site that are looking for an alternate air filter arrangement for these saws and thought I would share what I have done. After 4 weeks of trying to find a filter, I decided to fabricate my own mount and put a $6 Napa filter on it. Was originally going to get a K&N...

    Jonsered 920 questions

Thanks Teatersroad. Looking at the saw, what you are proposing makes sense. Will start looking for an intake that fits. Not sure what the local saw shop has, they are quite small. Would you know what other make/model saw's intake might fit the 920?

    Jonsered 920 questions

Thanks for the replies. I checked the K&N website, looks like it could make a good filter setup. Still need a 930 filter mount but searched all over, can't seem to find one. Any suggestions on where to go?

    Jonsered 920 questions

Another newbie with some questions. Just picked up a Jonsered 920 from an elderly gentleman that would not start. After lots of good reading on this site and a bit of tinkering, got the saw running. One of the carb needle valves was screwed all the way out. Felt good, this was my first attempt...
