    wood lifters? (save your backs)

I'm thinking about just hiring day laborers for 8 bucks an hour. If they break I can replace them cheap. Just kidding!

I want to put up a garage near some trees, ? about root system.

Essentially proper root pruning is done with a hand saw or a chain saw versus a backhoe or bull dozer. Trenching short of the excavation cut with Airspade is preferable, next preference would be a wheel saw then a trencher. This sets the critical root zone which should then be fenced to...

young guy looking for career advice

While Penn State has been in the limelight lately for bad reasons, they have a really good 2 year Forest Science program at their Mont Alto Campus which is very hands on chain saw, timber cruising, Urban Forestry class, forest measurment, felling and skidding, Forest Management and the such. It...

I want to put up a garage near some trees, ? about root system.

Both, and that is a rule of thumb. Generally speaking, the more roots you disturb, the more stress you place on the trees. Obviously! But, if you take measures such as proper root pruning, fertilization, irrigation, mulching and watching for secondary pest infestations you can often offset...

When Should I Plant This Tree?

Birch trees are historically a fall dig hazard. I Realize that you are probably looking at container stock, but keep that in mind.

Want to learn how to climb/more about climbing.

Hit you with a PM. There are also many video series. Companion is a basic must have. Jepson's "To Fell a Tree" is good too. Sharon Lilly's Tree Climber's Guide is very good as well. Check out more at International Society of Arboriculture . Also consider 5 days away in the fall for the...

    My new climbing saw

Good Luck with it! Ours was a lemmon from day one. Had to be repaired more than it ran. Finally traded it in a few years ago. You did get it for a great price though.

    Pennsylvania....doing tree work there?

:agree2: Gotta agree, it's a free for all in PA. Got a pick up and a saw and you are a self proclaimed tree expert. Competition is ridiculous in S.E. Pennsylvania. Outside of the South East it seems all they do is top any way.:chainsaw:

Another one handing a saw thread

I agree with these guys. I too had one handed for years. Then I found myself faced with the need to set the example I believe in leading by example, therefore I had to change in order to expect those who work for me to change. The old saying of "I've done it hundreds (or thousands) of times...

OMG!! That made me hurt!! You gotta love Redneck Youtube videos. I believe this is Darwin's way of culling the population.

    Shoulder injury?

The problem I had with the fish oil pills is I would burp them up for the rest of the day. They were nasty. Maybe it was just me.

    Big Shot Throw line

I would agree with Flushcut. The smaller (1.75) Zing-It and a 10 OZ bag have always worked well for me, unless it is a tree with really course bark, then I might up to a 12 OZ bag.

    Shoulder injury?

I feel your pain. Just had an MRI today. I have constant neck pain that radiates down the left shoulder. If I look the wrong way (sleep too) I get numbness in the shoulder and face. Had an issue with C6-C7 degenerative disc in the past. I'm sure it's just worse now. I did a lot of research...

    whadja do today?

Yeah, it was a mess. Power was out for a while, the funny thing is we didn't have any ice damage with any clients. Guess it was all isolated to where I live. The real problem, is that birch shaded the patio and screen porch.
