    thoughts on storm damage

I always call storm damage "emergency work" and do not rake up every pine needle or leaf left on the ground like on a regular removal or prune. This is so I can get to the next job how ever I tell them this before hand so if the want every leaf picked up I sub it to a landscape mantainance...

    dead trees

I went to take down a dead elm for a friend a week ago and here's what happened. He said tree has been dead a year and a half. It is close to the house and must be climbed. When I look at it the bark is peeling off bad and the base of the tree is rotting. It is about 14" at base and 70...

    not producing enough?

It sounds like a tremendous amount of work to me! I have never had anyone say something like that (to my face anyway  ). However, when I feel like they might say something about production I always bring up the "safety" factor. "We'll Sir, we work consistently, but cannot get into a...

    cranes

I also ride the ball on the crane. I would ride the basket but to obtrusive around limbs most of the time . . . plus I am used to riding the ball. It looks like I am doing it the legal way by those ANSI standards too. Stay safe! Steve P.S. We have started using cranes on many...

    knee pain

I use spikes a lot on takedowns and the inside of my knees get bruised often (because the spikes cut out when climbing hardwood). However, no knee problems yet. My boss is 60, still climbing every day . . . . been climbing every day for 30 years and has minimal knee pain. Mainly has ankle...

    climbing

I have a 33" waist and I wear a size small Weaver saddle I bought from Sherrill. It really needs to fit right or you won't be comfortable from the start. By the way, the guys at Sherrill are very, very knowlegeable. When you call the 800 number you will get someone who really knows whats...

    Enthusiasm of your local DOT

Maybe once every couple of years I see a license check but never anything else here in GA. Sometimes OSHA regulation men come sniffing around ( in Atlanta) but we meet or exceed their specs. I often see many tree workers practicing some extremely dangerous techniques but what do you do? I...
