Welcome to the forum. If smoke is coming out of the top ports then the top needs to be taken off and you need to re-cement the next layer of the stove. When you are doing this it is also a good time to replace the damper gasket and check for any warped parts. good luck

What size gasket did you use? I have no play in my front doors at all. Did you adjust the latching mechanism on the front doors to allow for the new gaskets? If so maybe you adjusted too much, if not then try tightening it now. good luck
