Dirty Hand Tools 22-Ton horizontal/vertical log splitter

I have to give a big shout out to DHT's customer service as they really took care of me. I have had a 27 ton for four years now and split around 4 cords per year or so. I just had a big weld on the main beam separate due to lack of penetration of the weld. My splitter is 1 year out of...

Thoughts on the new micro processor controlled saws

Back to OP’s question, my BIL’s have been running an auto tune 562xp and a couple of Stihl m tronics since right after they came out. No problems, they love the starting, idle and performance. It’s hard to comment on true long term durability since the tech is new. Sent from my iPhone...

    Just getting started

Husky 50 and 55 are worth a look. Metal cases, reliable and tough. Look for a clean one as you can easily spend just as much getting a beat one up to snuff. (beat and free, that's different).

Question about a husqvarna 50 in the paper?

I would buy it in a second. Doubt it is a coil. Carb most likely. Lots of good threads on this site about this model.

Not sure how to cut this tree down

Not sure straps are the answer, i think those are more for a situation with splitting potential. I think some of the posts were more concerned with the vertical loads on the remaining wood as you cut out the felling notch. The thin ring of remaining wood will be under high compressive forces and...

HELP! Husky 50 at local pawn shop...

The 50, IMHO was not made cheap, by today's standards it is just short of pro saw. No plastic cases, vey rebuildable, not the most powerful. A good durable saw.

    Jonsered 490 Advice

Might be a good idea to find the cause of the scoring before you year it down. Pressure and vac test are always good starts. Like Sherlock Holmes getting to examine the crime scene Before Lestread tramples the ground up.

Not sure how to cut this tree down

Thanks, I think :) My nickname comes from an incident in the marine world not trees. I would like to keep it that way, so will get some pics and seek AS help. Thanks for the words of caution, I plan to heed them and proceed cautiously or perhaps not at all.

What is the difference between the Husky XP and Landowner saws?

    Better define "crankcase" first.

    Advice needed for Stihl MS290

I have installed two aftermarket pistons from Bailey's, a site sponser, with good results. One of them went into a saw that looked as bad as yours, but the jug cleaned up nicely with the muriatic acid treatment. (I know, some of you guys install two pistons before lunch every day, but hey I...

How do you support your CAD Habbit?

Addiction? Problem? I don't have a problem! Really, I don't! Well, maybe a small one....:dizzy: The one that I have sold to date was at cost to a buddy, so no money made, but none lost either and it funded the next one so it's all good. Wifey likes to be warm so she is ok with saw...

    562xp re-released!

Today I asked the closest Husky shop when they were getting 562's in, he said"with the spring shipment" and added that he would be happy to order one for me..... I told him that I am at least a decade away from owning a 2012 saw :outtahere2: . He still has some 235's and 240's sitting on the...

    Lets talk about gas cans

I'm glad you are coordinated enough to operate the new EPA mandated gas cans. I, and apparently a few others, are not so gifted and thus have trouble with spillage and leaks. So we clutzy types will continue to commiserate on what is the best new gas can.

    Lets talk about gas cans

No spill gets my vote, because they work extremely well, not because of a hot sales girl.

Yikes, now I'm not sure what I bought!

Congrats on getting a classic running! I have noodled a lot with mine, it plugs up some, but keeps cutting. I try to pull the back from the log as much as I can to leave a gap for the noodles to escape, helps on the 50 and the "big boss".
