Best way to remove JB weld

There will always be some J-B Weld in my shop, as it works very well for certain applications. It isn't suitable for high-temperature aplications, as it gets soft like fresh putty at 300 deg F.

removing cluch from homelite super xl without a fancy tool???

The real beauty of a tool with a nut is that it can be used with an air impact (the 3/8" drive size is ideal) wrench to unscrew the clutch without having to block the piston.

    echo carb limiters?

I haven't looked at that model, but if it is like the other recently made Echos I would pull the limiters with a fine-thread drywall screw that has had the long sharp tip ground back to wherethe end just enters the slot in the cap. The screw will drive the needle in until the cap hits its limit...

stihl yellow chain on a green anti kickback bar? will this work?

The so-called anti-kickback bars are intended to be paired with safety chain that presents either a larger effective depth gauge surface area (ramped drive links) or outwardly extended bumper links (triple-humped tie straps with long tail) that keep the cutters from taking a deep bite when going...

    What's in your toolbox?

I like Torx fasteners, but I run into some that are in tight spaces that make them inaccessible without further disassembly. Allen wrenches can easily be made into custom stubby Torx wrenches. After cutting the Allen wrench to the proper length, the six flats on the end can be grooved using a...

sandvic bar i.d. and how do i tighten rivots holding the nose on?

Every used bar that leaves my shop gets, among other things, the nose sprocket inspected and tightened if needed. If a spread-out nose is not fixed promptly, then total failure is likely to happen soon. I use a straight-edge or I sight down the bar and decide which side is bent the most. This...

Easy way to adjust the tamper proof mixture screws

You can bank on the certainty that the tamper-proofing methods will keep changing, so a tool that works today will work only until the next new method is imposed. Remember the epoxy mandate? I wonder when the EPA will resort to enforcing the fine for tampering ($3700 for a user, $37000 for a...

Is there any certification resulting from taking the course? I am waiting for a class so I can get certified to use a chainsaw on volunteer trail work in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

    028WB l need parts

The part assembly is 0000 790 6101. It consists of an allen head screw of diameter 0.21" and 14 TPI pitch and a flanged cup of diameter 0.625" and length 0.475" that goes inside the opening in the plastic handle. You could improvise this assembly with a screw of that diameter and pitch with...

Anyone getting the "long running script" message?

Did somebody fix something? For the first time in a week or so I am not getting hung up on the culprit script. HOORAY!!!! Oh oh! Spoke too soon. As soon as I posted the above the script reared its ugly head again. And the wait for the Abort window seems twice as long as it was before.

Anyone getting the "long running script" message?

The script problem has made my computer impossible to use on this site. I am running Windows 2000 with the Explorer browser that came with it. I know I am overdue for a newer system, but it still works for everything except this site. The following string on my command line always hangs the...

Many plastics are known to swell when exposed to ethanol.

Problems with Husqvarna 435, shearing flywheel key

Dead on! The tapered fit relies on friction -- not on the key -- to keep the alignment (thus the timing) correct. The surfaces must mate precisely to jam together securely. There should be no roughness, trash, or oil present. Lapping of most modern flywheels to the tapered crankshaft is...

    sharpening guide advice

A depth gauge cut down to 0.050 would stop the saw in its tracks. Surely you mean more like half that.

Sounds like the diaphragm in the oil pump is leaking.

    Slamm

The semi-chisel typically requires less tooth removal per sharpening since the full-chisel beak has to be brought back to a sharp point, and it gets dulled further back than any of the cutting edges on either semi or full -- this translates to less frequent sharpening and a higher total of...

    Rebuild or Buy new ?

Those saws sometimes developed air leaks at the intake sleeve between carb and jug or at the impulse hose. If the fuel mix was good and at the right air/fuel ratio, then an air leak is likely could have caused a too-lean condition. I find good 55's and 51's regularly in the $100 - $150 range...
