Darin, the owner of AS, does NOT allow cross posting. He and I locked horns on this years ago.

    New Gear - some questions

What harness? It sounds like it might be a size too big. Your approach to tree climbing is one that is likely to lead to an accident. the place to learn is NOT off the ground by yourself. Low and slow means learning on the ground first. How else are you learning? The questions that...

    New Gear - some questions

Doing a switchover from ascent to descent is NOT something to learn off the ground. The procedure can be learned by yourself. There are lots of helpful videos and other websites to learn from. If you'd like to find your way to the other websites send me or Moss an email.

    New Gear - some questions

Check out the SRT illustration on page 65....shameless self-promotion :) Hitches don't work very well for descending on SRT. The physics are very complex. A climber who posts on a couple of the another pro tree climbing forum and a rec climbing forum is working through a two-hitch setup that...

    SRT Question ( s )

The myth of SRT loading There is a myth about the load on the TIP for climbing either SRT or DdRT. If there is no friction at the TIP then the load is amplified. In DdRT when a false crotch is used, especially one using a low friction pulley like the Rope Guide with the Cocoon, the load may...

    The Evolution of an Invention

Jomo, Are you patronizing? Everything has potential, somethings more than others. A pedaled ascending system could be refined into a usable machine. Whether you can come up with something that has a value to anyone but yourself doesn't make a difference unless you're trying to make money...

    The Evolution of an Invention

Like JPS said, it's like watching a Bigfoot video! For us to see how this thing works you can rig a treadmill setup on your rope. Instead of having your ascending rope anchored at the top or bottom run it through a belay device at the bottom. Then, as you 'ascend' your belayer gives slack so...

    SRT Question ( s )

The Fate system is one that works nicely. The Unicender is another option too. There are SOOOOO many advantages to using SRT in arb work. Go through the archives here and the other arbo forums for LOTS of information.

    SRT rope tie-off

A timber hitch for the ground anchor of SRT is almost the WORST choice. If constant tension isn't maintained it can get baggy and not be secure. Trunk wraps with a load releasing hitch is a good system to use since the climber can be lowered from the ground without a rescue climb...I...

    ascending rope rack

I'm interested and excited to see if this unit can be put into production. Doing the testing and finding a company to insure the sale may be two big challenges. Since Rock Exotica is making the Unicender now there is a price reduction. How many people climb SRT now? Paying more...

CAn it be used on SRT? What diameter rope is it designed for? What alloy aluminum are you using? Can you show a better picture of how the rope weaver through the links?

    ascending rope rack

Are you going to buy a proper harness? A bowson's seat may be ok for chipping paint on ships or working in other industries but not arb work. Do you have a still picture of the side view with the rope rounted through the links? I'm trying to understand how the linkage works to slide/grab...

    ascending rope rack

Do you have pictures of how the tool goes on the rope? It looks like the rope has to be threaded. If so, this is a real limitation. It's interesting to see how you've modified the Unicender concept.

    ascending rope rack

Morgan Thompson unveiled the Unicender over six years ago at the TCIA Expo in Long Beach, CA. Now, Rock Exotica is making the Unicender and Sherrill is selling the Unicender. For the past six years all that I've climbed on is the Unicender. http://thompsontreetools.com/...

    Veggie oil?

Garbage doesn't bide with politics. Everyone makes garbage, even non-political people. There are plenty of good reasons to use veggie oil. This is a very old thread that I followed and participated in so I have a good idea of what is in the thread. If a person had an open mind and wanted to...
