What chain brand YOU buy when u need one now (not online)

Last time I needed chains, I either went to the local sharpening shop or the Husky dealer. Both sell professional chain, not safety chain. However... now I will be getting more of it online due to cost savings and the fact that no one sells semi chisel around here. Stihl dealer might but...

    372xp with 395 am cylinder?

Last I remember, one of the Aussies on this site fitted a 390? cylinder to a 372 crankcase... however it took some machining and know how... but he did it. It's buried in the Aussie thread somewhere.

    Which saws would you want?

Here you go... Saved best for last... here it is running. Been over a year sitting and took about 45 minutes of fiddling around with it to get it to run on its own. Longer it sits... longer time and more priming (use premix in an oiler can, not starting fluid) it takes to get it to go.

    Best vintage Husqvarna?

I will give you that. I haven't had a problem with that yet, though. Granted, I don't run my saw more than a tank full at a time. I take breaks and check the saw over, if the chain's loose, I let it cool and readjust, etc. I don't go about like a chicken with its head cut off and refuelling...

    Which saws would you want?

My go to is the 372XP. If I need to cut anything bigger than 28" I will use my old McCulloch 250 with the 39" bar. Which reminds me, I should get it (250) out and see if it runs... been a while.

    Best vintage Husqvarna?

If I were to pick one, a 288. My 372 isn't old enough to qualify, as much as I love it. I'll take my 372's inboard any day. Super easy to change chains, super easy to replace the rim. I've dealt with outboards on my older saws it can be a PITA to line the chain up on the rim. I can manage...

    Lombard chainsaws

Looks a lot like the carbs I've seen on older two stroke Tecumseh powered snowblowers... like Toro S200 and even Jacobsen Sno Burst.

McCulloch Super 44 recoil spring help

Yeah, everything takes some learning... I'd be tickled to have a mill sitting in my barn. But then you have tooling to buy, and micrometers and calipers and dial indicators and test indicators and end mills and chucks and collets and drill bits and digital read outs and even more stuff... If...

Want to Buy Poulan Wild Thing 2375

I have a Wild Thing that needs work on the oiler... runs good. Don't know if it's a standard port or strato port though... I would have to dig it out and look. If you want, it can come with the case too.

McCulloch Super 44 recoil spring help

If you can't get it, let me know. I'm willing to put it together for you. All it would cost is shipping both ways, which there should be a USPS flat rate box that would be about 14 bucks total. That old right hand starter set up is a little goofy... hence the reason saws from McCulloch...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

I've got some that are in my way. Let me know if you're interested.

There's a guy selling two Pro Mac 700's (package deal) on ebay. I might know that guy...

McCulloch Super 44 recoil spring help

I remember messing with this on my 790... twice. What you do is put the spring in the housing, and line up the slot in the small drum of the rope sheave on the end of the spring that sticks out in the middle of the coil. I'm not sure how else to explain it... kinda fussy to deal with. Then...

    Cheap bar oil?

lol... that reminds me of the best trolling thread ever on SH... we all know who swallowed the hook until it hit his rectum...

    Cheap bar oil?

Not recommended... at least not by me. It doesn't contain the additives to help the oil stick to the bar and chain. Good three season (spring, summer, fall) bar oil is thick and sticky, winter bar oil is more along the lines of 30 weight motor oil, but still somewhat sticky.

    Cheap bar oil?

Menards... I've gotten bar and chain oil there for 8 bucks or less before. Most recently bought Husqvarna stuff for about 10 bucks a gallon. Have bought Stihl at 15 bucks one time. Depends on where I am at.

    ethonal

So it's user error to want to be able to store stuff with fuel in it? Like the garden tractor... it sits all winter and fires right up every spring, on the same gas put into it late fall. Ethanol free gas doesn't really need a stabilizer... it stays fresh for a lot longer. Saws sit ready to...

VP SEF Bar & Chain Oil

710 is a few bucks cheaper than 800 over here.

VP SEF Bar & Chain Oil

Been running the Motul 800 at 32:1... retuned the saw, and it runs real well... idles smoother and seems to be a little more powerful. It seems to mix well. Smokes a little when it's cold, but once the engine is warmed up, there is no smoke. Has a very faint odor... smells good too. I would...

    Pro Mac 650 parts

No, not all of them have the decomp clearance. Does your saw actually have one, or does it just happen to have the decomp compatible cover? I have one decomp compatible cover that I might be willing to part with as the saw that it is on has no compression. However, it is the standard flag...
