    Opinion: Is this saw new/unused?

I think he is full of it with the $1800 line, too. It looks used to me. Lots of grime on the sprocket cover above the bar nuts. I wouldn't mind having a 461, but not at full retail and no warranty.

    Thoughts? my vote is no.

huskee 28 ton splitter here is a nice splitter for sale...at only $1k more than it sells for new. this one has lived outside its entire life, judging by the faded paint and rust. the hydraulic oil all over the flatbed is a nice touch too. i offered them $500 if it actually runs and...

    Got some pecan

Local fellow pruned his orchard pretty hard, and so I called him up and asked him if I could have some. He obliged so I went cutting yesterday. In about 2 hours, I bucked up and loaded 6-7 pretty good size limbs he had down. Good for a cord a little more. My smoker is going to be happy for a...

    Big load today

seeing that beautiful white oak log turned into firewood makes me sad!

free slab not even a wood slab, and not firewood related, but i got a kick out of it. retard wants someone to "move" his 10'x10' slab. even at 4" thick, you're looking at 5000 lbs of concrete.

Is firewood made out of gold here?

no friggin' kidding. it takes me roughly 5 hours to fell, buck, split and stack a cord of wood. the splitting is a getting a little bit faster because i bought i used huskee hydro. i do it because i enjoy it, and i enjoy being outside. even so, at $100/cord delivered for red oak, i'd just...

Need a bigger saw, need your expert advice

i'd look for a 70-something cc. stihl ms440, ms460 or ms441. should run 5-600 on CL for one in excellent condition.

    Laser Log Marker

i'm not a dolmar guy, but it looks like his saw is significantly bigger too. looks like maybe an 18" bar 50cc class, and stihl looks like an MS180. Yeah, no bias in that video.

    This Week's Firewood Score

Really? I mentioned it elsewhere, but I picked up a fairly cheap used Huskee 22 ton recently. It did a nice job on some white oak limbs (22"!) that I could not break with the fiskers or the maul. That being said, wrestling those big rounds into position (even vertically) seemed like it was...

    This Week's Firewood Score

bet those big pieces of trunk will split easier by hand than trying to wrestle them onto the splitter. i love straight grained oak stems and my fiskers! as for the guy pooping in your thread...blah. free wood = score!

Can anyone tell me about this splitter before I buy it for $800.00

fwiw, i picked up my very first hydraulic splitter recently when I got a load of BIG white oak limbs (24") that I couldn't hand split. I got the Huskee 22 ton for $700 on CL. I don't think it had ever had more than a few tanks of gas through it, and it came with a 5 gallon bucket of hydraulic...

    Craigslist laughs

ha, live just north of there. the crazy stuff i see on macon's cl is constant source of entertainment. i don't have a link, but someone posted 4-5 6" diameter weathered pecan limbs about 18" long for MONTHS...wanted $25 for them, since they were excellent smoking wood. ;)

    Bucking with aftermarket/big dog spikes?

OK, i found this: Bailey's - Pro-Safety Felling Dogs for Stihl 044/064/066/MS 440 and 660 I know the caveat about heavy duty clutch covers was *not* there when I bought them, or I would have passed on the purchase. Looks like I am not the only one to have issues with this particular spike...

    Bucking with aftermarket/big dog spikes?

Um, because they were sold as spikes for a 441? Clearly my fault for not being clairvoyant at the time of purchase. i was just looking at bailey's website, and cannot find a big dog spike listed for the 441. i am going to pull my receipt to make sure, but i am confident they were sold for...

    Bucking with aftermarket/big dog spikes?

thanks for the responses everyone. i got busy, and was away from the computer last night. i will be removing these from the saw and reinstalling the original spike. i'll see about looking into the less aggressive stihl set. bailey's online product review is going to hear from me as well...

    Bucking with aftermarket/big dog spikes?

beergut, do you have any of the issues that i noted when running your 460? i am only running a 20" bar, and it sure didn't like those dogs. i think i am going to go out to the shop and cut the lowest spike off. they're not doing me any good the way they are. -matt

    Big Dog Spike technique?

i noticed the lowest spike being the culprit, too. thought about hitting it with a grinder to make it a little less aggressive. anyone else modded theirs?

    Big Dog Spike technique?

no on lowering the rakers....it is factory stihl RS full chisel chain. It was new when I put it on the bar. Saw has absolutely no problem pulling it, as long as the dogs don't touch the wood, and act like a lever (which is what they're supposed to do.) seems kind of self defeating.
