    Name that transmission

Let's see if y'all can identify this transmission from just 1 pic.

    Got me a new project!

2000 Silverado 2500 4x4 Been looking for one of these for a while that didn't cost me an arm and a leg, but wasn't either a rust buckets, had no transmission, or had a blown engine. This one is solid, just needs a bunch of mostly cosmetic repairs and maintenance items. Started with replacing the...

    What were they thinking?

Just replaced the alternator on my 2002 Ford Focus. Only took 3.5 hours. Wth were they thinking putting the alternator halfway down the back side of the engine? Every other vehicle I have ever worked on, an alternator is a 30-45 minute job, max. This was a pita

    Generator question

Ok, I have never worked on one before, but I got one for $30 last night that needs work. It is missing the capacitor. I have an old 110V compressor that has a capacitor on it and am curious if I can use it. Might be a dumb question, but honestly I don't know the difference in them.

    Homelite 1020XP

Where is the tag supposed to be on a 1020XP? I picked one up, but I don't see a tag anywhere.

    Fighting with insurance

So a dude ran a red light yesterday and clipped me. He then proceeded to lie to the cops saying that I ran the light. Nobody stopped to offer a statement. The cops said there was nothing they could do to determine who was at fault. Anyone ever fought one of these he said/he said claims? I only...

    New Craftsman 46cc chainsaw

I got the one of the new Craftsman saws at an auction Friday for $10. It was being sold for parts because the clutch cover was off of it. Turns out the side bar adjustment gear was stripped. So I went to my parts shed to see what I had to match it and oddly enough a Homelite clutch cover used...

    Skil 1631

I believe this is a Skil 1631. Ran across it at a neighbors house and saved it from being scrapped. Who knows, maybe I might even get it running one day.

    Shindaiwa 300s

Well, I FINALLY got to run my little project saw I finished a while back, and I love it! This little saw rips for its size and weight. Probably will be my go-to small saw now. Now on to the 352s.

    ABS issues

My little 2002 Focus has been having an issue with the ABS malfunctioning for a while and it isn't the sensors. The light comes on every now and then, but the problem is pretty consistent. It acts like I have a wheel locked up when slowing to a stop under 35ish mph and makes the ABS come on and...

    David Bradley restoration

I have a coworker interested in getting his dad's old David Bradley (I think that is what it is) running. Not a full on restore, just get it functional again. Model # 917.60041 I have never worked on one of these. Is this an overly difficult task? Obviously parts will be somewhat difficult to...

    4.8 vs 5.3

In a full sized Silverado, how much difference is there between these 2 engines?

    Spark plugs

NGKs seem to be pretty popular, but what are the "good" brands, and which ones should be avoided?

    Engine swap project

After years of waiting, I am finally about to get started on my "updating" my 1987 Cavalier Z24. Removing the fun but weak 2.8 MPFI engine and replacing it with a 3500 engine. Hp goes from 140 to about 210. Project basically consists of putting a 2005 engine in a 1987 car using 1996 electronics...

    Shindaiwa 488 w/fixed jet carb

So I just got my 488 running and noticed during the rebuild that the muffler is pretty restrictive, but this one has a fixed jet carb. Is there a different carb available for this saw or is there an adjustable jet under the funny looking cap on the carb?

    Indecision strikes again.

Had a few minutes yesterday to look through my projects and try to decide which one to work on. Really just took inventory to see which ones needed what. After picking up several and just putting them back down, I decided to look at the Shindaiwa 488 that I got off of e bay as a junker to...

What do y'all do to keep your sockets organized? I'm looking for ideas. The throw them in the drawer method is getting old.

What is the difference between the impulse pipe on a 136 and a 55 Rancher? Look about the same to me.

    Midsize SUVs

We were in the market for a newer midsize SUV and I have found that there really isn't such a vehicle being made anymore. Oh they CALL them SUVs, but there is almost nothing utility about them. Just large cars really. Really wanted a decent RWD midsize with a V6 with decent towing for a small...
