    Mesquite Firewood

It makes pretty good firewood. Here (SW OK) it is ready to burn in the winter if cut in the spring. It is the only wood I burned for years as I thought nothing else was worth burning, then I got to cutting hedge and black locust... The problem with mesquite is all the work for the little amount...

Cutting up a big red oak.

That is quite a score! We are about 2/3 done with wheat harvest here. Finally had enough rain that we get to mow a bit around the house. Plus my uncle just bought a house and it had about 2 cord of mixed firewood stacked out back and he borrowed and loaded my trailers and his and delivered it...

    Redneck Outdoor Cooking

We made one for my uncle but also put a small propane burner in the bottom for him to use. He is in a wheelchair and the height is perfect for him and propane is much easier for him than getting wood to it. He does burn some wood, but only the small stuff that will fit in there from my fire pit...

Next time you're feelin' down and blue...

I know what you mean, had a few sicknesses hit me last week and over the weekend and people boo hooing over me, but all I can think about is an old family friend who got a bone marrow transplant a few months ago for leukemia and everything was looking good. Then Monday, he went for a checkup and...

    cut a lil hedge yesterday

Looking good! We need to finish our skid steer trailer first, then we will finish the gooseneck hydraulic dump and I can use it to haul some hedge....someday. I limbed out a few long standing dead hedge today that my dad knocked over with the dozer for me a few months ago. Just need to buck them...

    Roll Call

Our high for the day was at midnight last night. Woke up to 29F with a 25-30mph north wind and freezing rain/sleet. At 10 am the temp had dropped to 24 F and the moisture switched to snow and it has been snowing for 5 hours now. Have had a fire in the insert since morning of November 11th. I am...

    Had to light up tonight!

I wish I were burning, but I am running my a/c still. It was 93 here today and probably going to be hotter tomorrow. Gnats, flies, and all sorts of wasps still flying around. Bring on the cold and wood-burning. Begone 90 + temps and pests!

    First fire of the season

Here in southwest Oklahoma I usually don't start burning until mid-November. But we had a cold front blow through yesterday with some cold north winds and very fall like temps forecasted for this weekend. I may light a fire just to take the chill off for the baby and the toddler.

need advice wood insert low cost models...

I have a Quadrafire 3100 in a small fireplace and an Osburn 2400. They both work well and are quite efficient. The Quadrafire looks better with the fancy trim and all, but it cost almost twice as much as the Osburn, even though it's firebox is about 1/2 the area of the Osburn. Both are well made...

Bitten 3 times, in 3 weeks.

I liked your post cause I can just see myself going back after getting stung and throwing a shovel or rake or something through the nest just to get back at the little buggers. Then coming in after dark and burning them out with a propane torch or some sort of spray. I saw myself in your post...

Bitten 3 times, in 3 weeks.

I finally got to do some work around the yard yesterday morning and went out the back door. Heard the buzzing and turned to see a yellow-jacket nest on each side of the door. I evacuated and let them call down and came back a few minutes later and doused them good. Checked last night and they...

    Are you still burning

I had let the fire burn out in my insert for about 2 weeks, but had to re-light due to cold front that came through Sunday. Let it burn out again his morning. This was the first year I have had where I didn't had to run the a/c until May. But, forecasting 100s starting Sunday through Wednesday...

    Whats in your burner?

Black locust, hedge, black walnut, and a little bit of pine to get it hot in a hurry.

love a 3 saw woodcutting combo

I have a MS250, muff modded MS361 and a Dolmar 7900. I am finding that I rarely take the MS361 anymore. Only when I am cutting the down and long dead locust or hedge, just so I don't have to stop and sharpen a chain while in the field. The little MS250 seems to be my go to saw as it is so lite...

How far away is your wood cutting area

For me it is 2.5 miles one way to the 15 acre hedge/black locust grove my great grandpa planted back in the 19-teens. Ice storm did severe damage back in 2009 and 2010, so I am cutting the damaged/downed trees. Also, just north of that patch is a wild grove of black locust and some trash trees...

    1 days worth...

That would last me about 2 1/2 days here with overnight temps in the teens and highs around 30. 2,000 square foot ranch style, single story solely heating with Osburn 2400 insert.

Bruno who and the Red Hot what??

I spent the afternoon cooking and preparing food for my parents and brother to come watch the game (commercials) here at my house. We spent the first quarter eating, the second quarter snacking and the 1/2 time show cleaning up the mess. Then I spent the 3rd quarter in the garage sharpening...

    New Mahindra 5035 with grapple

Have you got any pic of this thing in action yet. We got a local dealer here and my brother and I have been wanting to know more about these little tractors, especially if we can get one with a backhoe and front end loader. But want something that will hold up for years of use and not nickel...
