got to try my husky 359 today

What I'm getting here is if you're not happy with your 359 you shuld put it down and grab something with a few more cc's.

    346xp, 357xp (firewood saw)

I have a 346XP with a 16" bar and a 359 with a 20. If I had to choose one to have for everything it'd be the 359. More displacement, and pulls a longer chain with more authority. I like to switch back and forth for fun and to keep seeing which one I like better...so far the 359 still wins...

    another husqvarna

Isn't there some info on the serial number plate to definitively answer this?

modd or break in new saws first?

I've yet to mod my saws but the way I see it, I know they get stronger during break-in, so I want to wait unitl its all settled in and the stock power is peaked and then see what the mods can do to open her up.

Husky 455 or Stihl MS 290

Both saws will do what you want for a long time and take plenty of abuse. Both have a loyal following and plenty of good history. Try them both and buy based on feel, price and dealer availability.

    346XP or 254XP for firewood?

Only one way to answer this question. Get that 254 running and put them all to work. Then no matter which ine you like the best, keep them all and look for more!

    Value of your collection?

About a grand replacement value overall. I'm just a firewood guy.

    Don't Buy Junk Part 2

I said 125 and got a 69. An utter dislike for professional sports and alcohol hurt my score...total of 6 zeroes.
  9. mayhem100

    are you freaking serious

I've never done it either but I'm going to say straight gas, WOT and putting a heavy load on it.

    Don't Buy Junk

I'm going to go with a 125. I like working with my hands when I can but I don't always have enough time...or the tools...or sometimes the talent.

    Husqvarna 455 rancher

I know a few guys with 455's and they all swear by them...we're all firewood cutters, nothing more. We all do between 5-10 cords a year. The 455 has a reputation as being overweight, underpowered, blah, blah, blah...its also a very durable saw that seems to love being abused and comes back for...

Guys, don't get complacent out there!!!

I've misread more trees than I care to admit...been very lucky that the worst thing so far is I had to buy a new bar for the 359. Had some branches and even the whole damn trunk come frighteningly close to me, but never felt an impact. I wear my helmet religously, even when bucking now...

How many saws is this going to burn up?

The cans are very clearly marked, so I don't see the problem. Anyone who is inattentive enough to pour this into their saw or trimmer is going to straight gas it eventually anyway.
  14. mayhem100

346xp now or wait for 550xp?

The answer is obvious. Get the 346 now. Get the 550 later. Duh!

Looking for some interesting input about Made in USA

Both of my Husqvarnas were made in Sweden. I think you would be very hard pressed to find people who lump Husqvarna into the same bucket as Poulan and Craftsman..unless you're tlaking about the orange cased Poulan's with Husqvarna stickers (like the 200 series). I ran a Craftsman 18"...

    Saving Money with firewood heat

In the dead of a normal winter without the woodstove, we could go through a tank of oil in about 3 weeks. 250 gallon fillup at $3.50 a gallon and you're looking at a $900 bill per month for heat.

    Broken cylinder fins

    My bad then.
  18. mayhem100

    Broken cylinder fins

Modify the top plastic cover to keep the remaining fins exposed to max fresh air and run it till it drops, the drop a fresh p&c in there. Bet it runs longer than most would think.

    Question about paying on ebay.

I use paypal to buy and sell on ebay as well as private transactions in forums that have for sale sections like here, it works well and you gotta suck it up and pay the fees. They provide a service and are entitled to make money on it. The one time I had a dispute was when I bought a gas RC...

    346XP leaking bar oil

I picked up a brand new 359 from the dealer this past spring for $400 out the door because it oozed b&c oil and after the dealer allegedly went back and forth with Husqvarna to try and fix it a few times they opted to just blow it out on clearance for $150 off. Lucky me I'm the guy who go it...
