    Another splitter question

I have said this before but, the way i do it chunk wood in forest, bring home, back trailer next to wood pile, have kid roll me rounds directly from trailer to splitter, split, throw in wood pile, wife stacks nice and neat. DONE! Really no need for log lift or breaking your back. The less times...

    Another splitter question

This is not a one size fits all question. I am 6ft4 or so and need mine a bit higher. Lower requires less lifting, but kills my back when working the splitter. For me a comfortable lift and working height is ideal. I would say grab a log and stretch out your arms in front of you like you would...

    burning pine..

I use a 3 step process. Cut dead, split and stack. No need for fast orange as good dead pine has very little sap. And the only alcohol i use is a few ice cold MGD's for refreshment after the work is done.

    burning pine..

Where i live Wyoming we have pine and aspen. I burn both and have done so for many years. I keep a year ahead on my firewood and clean my chimney once a season. I cut standing dead in early summer and split ASAP. Last year i burnt 6+ cords and swept about 1.5 gallons of flaky dry brown "stuff"...

Can a hydraulic splitter be to fast

I think my home made splitter is about 12 seconds. This is about as fast as i can work, so anything faster would be a waste and probably take some fingers with it. Personally i would not want one faster than about 8-10 seconds just for the safety factor.

    One Mean Splitter!

For me i would pass unless you can get a real deal. I know it could be raised up but, it sure sits close to the ground. My back is hurting just looking at it.

    Log splitter design ?

I built my own splitter and agree 1/8" is just about right. Add some grease once in a while if you are worried about it, i never do though.

Hauling Wood As You Get Older...What Changes Have You Made?

I consider myself a pretty good welder/fabricator and have built my own splitter and my own wood trailer. I always thought a splitter station built on a trailer would be cool. I would rather do all of my firewood work in the mountains. Its cooler and prettier. You could save another step in the...

Hauling Wood As You Get Older...What Changes Have You Made?

I have learned that the only time a piece of wood should hit the ground is when the tree is cut down. I have a system that works well, fell tree, chunk up, load on trailer, roll from trailer directly to splitter, split, stack. The less it is handled and kept off the ground the more efficient...

Alright.. Fess up.. Who's NOT ready?

I am actually set this year. More than i need for once. Usually i am down to the last minute and did not cut enough. I got all i needed in two days, then bought a new saw and had to go try it out, so got another trailer full. I guess i won't have to cut as much next year.

Tried my ebay 372XP today, one question please

Got to really try my ebay 372XP today and was very impressed. Love that saw, was a good purchase and did not disappoint. One question for you fellas, when first started and even a bit after warmed up, if saw is idling and i rev it up to cut it stutters a bit before revving. Once revved...

Neighbor Took Half Cord - No Pay - VENT!

I run into this kind of crap once in a while just trying to be a good guy. All i would do in this situation is tell him next time that you no longer are in the firewood business and do not sell it anymore. Or you have a 2 cord minimum cash up front. Firewood is too hard of work to give away...

    Buying used saws

I have only one experience and it is great so far. I bought a husky 372XP on ebay and got it last night. It started on second pull and not a scratch on it. $625.00 I took it to an old friend that must have 20 saws and has been a logger for years. His exact words "you better send that guy a...

    Splitter height ?

Personally i like mine nice and high. Without going out and measuring, i am guessing i set mine at about 32-36. It really depends on you. I am 6'5 so a beam at 24" would not be good. Think of when you are operating not just height you need to lift the log. The lift takes about 3 seconds where...

New guy with a crazy 372xp question

Man that sucks! This dude is lucky you don't have a short fuse like myself. I am not kidding this guy would need a team of surgeons to remove the bar from his a**! Just reading about this has got me pissed. You just don't do things like this. If you are unable to do the job just admit it and...

Please explain bar size and advantages/disadvantages

Thanks guys, some good info here! All we have is pine and some aspen, so softwoods. Your points make sense now. I could not figure why a big powerful saw would have a 15" bar on it. I guess it all depends on what and how you are cutting. Thanks!
