first time with a chain grinder...

sorry for late reply, my day job started off the week in a flurry... so i did some cutting this past weekend with the pictured chain. cut mainly 18+ ash logs for firewood splitting and a few white oak of the same size. man does the chain cut! i think i'm a decent hand filer and could get...

never said anything about not modding my saws... my 450 is my only stock saw! the lil poulan i have has seen many a better days before i tore into it. now runs like a raped ape but i know its days are numbered... i only use it for light limbing and when i want to make a lot of noise! the...

first time with a chain grinder...

thanks for the picture... i will go back and take another look at the wheel angle and see if i can adjust to match better. I did notice that my round files dont work as well if i try to run them across... not a huge deal right now as i have a sharp chain but can see this being an issue for...

first time with a chain grinder...

crappy cell phone camera + an unclean chain = "blue" tip cutter... I thought about cleaning the chain before grinding it but just went ahead and did it anyway. The "blue" or dark area behind the cutter tip is just burnt wood pith and such that was still on the cutter. I just went and scraped...

first time with a chain grinder...

The chain in the pic is a Woodland Pro from Baileys for my 20" carlton bar on my 266xp (3/8" .063 full chisel). Once I found Woodland pro chains I never looked back. If I can find the time I may find an extra loop and do a fresh grind at 32° and see if i can run a comparison this weekend when...

first time with a chain grinder...

i did check with a cheap oregon depth gauge (the kind you lay on top and expose just the depth gauge if it pokes up) and it needed just a bit taken off each. So i went thru and did that to all (way more pain in the arse than hand filing IMO). I havent cut yet with it, hoping to do so this...

first time with a chain grinder...

I typically hand sharpen but after a while we all know a good grind is necessary to reset the cutter. I used to pay a guy to do this for me but my FIL recently got the cheapo HF chain grinder so I figured I would give it a shot. Got it all setup and double checked the angles as best I could...

    husky 266 clutch replacemnt options

thanks for the reminder about the clutch threads, totally forgot about that! I think a new sring will do just fine as the clutch shoes dont show much wear. plus a new spring is much cheaper than a whole new clutch.

    husky 266 clutch replacemnt options

so the spring in my 266 grenaded yesterday while cutting some 42" round silver maple slabs. didnt realize it until i couldnt get the chain to stop running at idle. i did some research for new parts and want to know if just replaceing the spring is the best option or if i should replace the...

    Husqvarna 266 xp

my p&c looked just like that (maybe a fuzz wrose...) it will clean up as long as there is no deep scoring in the cylinder walls. get a new piston, new crank seals, buy a gasket kit for the whole saw and replace all the gaskets in the set less the case gasket (keep it around if you ever want to...

    Husqvarna 266 xp

ABSOLUTLY WORTH FIXING!!! I have a pretty lengthy thread with pics from a 266XP rebuild i recently did and it was totally worth it. I have 20, 24, and 28 inch bars for it and it pulls through about anything i throw at it. Yea its a little heavy and the anti-vibe isnt as good as new stuff...

best way to fix stripped muffler bolts on 266XP?

does the muffler bracket go under the muffler bolt nuts or is it just supported by the remaining threads after tightening the nuts onto the muffler bolts? i cant say i looked at that before i tore it apart...

best way to fix stripped muffler bolts on 266XP?

so after a good couple days of cutting some nice dry ash i went to give the 266 a thorough cleaning and noticed the muffler was a touch loose. nothing major but still noticeable. i wen to tighten the muffler bolts and then noticed i wasn't getting anywhere. i went to remove the bolt holding...
