    What Moisture % is acceptable??

Bobaty21, I've done a good bit of research on your "city" and the surrounding area. Just out of personal interest. Looks like a very interesting lifestyle for an outdoors type person. Alot of natural beauty in the outskirts also. From what I've heard, you should be very happy with the BK. If...

    Decisions, decisions! (Poll)

Don't know alot about the other options but I put a wood furnace in the basement and now our house is way warmer than with Nat. gas and the wood use is not as bad as I thought it would be. Everyone told me about 10 cords. Probably more like 4 or 5. Have fun with the project. Kevin

    chimney cleaning/flu fire

A flex liner made for wood will work fine. You might need to insulate it. There is a rigid liner made that is insulated and can be used in a masonry chimney with no clearance to the masonry. Much better product than flex in my opinion. If you have moderate handyman skills, you can install it...

School me on indoor wood furnace

Do as much research as possible on wood furnaces. You will be surprised at the differences. Also, Keith does a very good job of advising on safely installing your system as well as other aspects of wood heat. Cutting corners on an install can be deadly. If it is done properly, and maintained, a...

School me on indoor wood furnace

How far is your oil furnace from your wood stove? Also, 6" is probably a more common size flue for a wood furnace that would heat your size home. I could be wrong though. Pushing air into the termination end of your duct could be made to work but I don't think it is ideal. Insurance Co...

    Stove pipe help

Without knowing what kind of pipe, I would guess probably not a good idea. Burning wood requires pipe that is designed for it. It is not a scheme to take advantage of anyone but rather for safety reasons. There are also proper clearances around stove and chimney pipe that are extremely...

Looking to hire subcontractor to split firewood

Possibly, the wood is not for sale. Heating a large home with a older style stove can eat up some wood.

90 degree bend on top of woodstove. Will it be ok?

what type of chimney and how high? If your draft is strong enough, you should be ok. Are all clearances good?

    Englander question

Much of your answer will depend on how strong your chimney is drafting. If it isn't really strong, the exhaust damper will cool the smoke too much and cause creosote problems. How tall and what type of chimney?

If that is your picture in front of the flag, I'll be over to help. 75* here in PA today too. Beautiful Oct. weather.

    Smell that wood?

rmotoman, It seems odd to me that the smell of woodsmoke would make you so sleepy.

    Barometric damper.

There are people on here looking for answers to questions on safe and proper woodburning. The bickering is extremely irritating to the point that I would hesitate to ask a wood furnace question. It is great to see Americans who are passionate about their work but it needs to be done in the...

US Stove 2500 - What is your opinion, should I buy one?

If you are on a tight budget the Englander stoves are pretty hard to beat. U.S. Stoves are typically very inefficient. If you can afford to, the newer stove technologies are well worth the expense. WELL SEASONED wood (1-2 years)is the key to any wood stove. Good luck

    Pa. Outdoor Woodburning ban

I'm fairly certain they already have. I'm in Rimersburg, grew up in Sligo. We probably don't know each other but it is interesting to get a response from someone local.

    Pa. Outdoor Woodburning ban

The town council in Sligo, Pa meets in an old brick(former school) building with a old time coal furnace for heat. Black smoke pouring out of the chimney while they decide that town residents can no longer use outdoor wood burning stoves to heat their homes. I think it is terribly hypocritical...

Don't know as I'll do this again (Kinda long)

I know that's alot of work but next winter it will be a fond memory while burning that ash. Good score.

    Stove pipe location Question.

elevating your current furnace could also solve any venting height issues if you would someday install a taller furnace.

maul recomended for big doug fir

Beautiful pile of wood. Can't really help with advice because i also use a 8lb. maul. Lots of people rave about the x27 but i can't say anything from experience. Personally, I enjoy the workout of splitting when the weather is cool.
