Best way to move your TIP in the tree

Smokey, I love your videos, but my advice is to get a groundie who is proficient with a bigshot and throw line. :msp_biggrin:

    Engineering Project on Arborists

How about a jetpack and jetpack powered rigging platform. BOOM! Hazardous tree removals are a thing of the past. :msp_thumbup: On second thought, you probably better build a breathalyzer into those jetpacks as well.

    climbing line

I use the 10mm ocean polyester eye 2 eye for my VT on tachyon and like the combination a lot.

    Christmas Present Ideas?

+1 with Pelorus Also, if you have a little extra cash to spend, you should get him a bigshot. I'd take a bigshot over a red rider any day

    Gun Bullets inside trees

Yep, I've found a couple of .22 bullets with my chain. Fortunetely lead is so soft that it really doesn't dull or ruin a chain like a nail would.

Subcontracting for the army corps of engineers

+1 on the ridiculous safety precautions. I did some subbing for a larger outfit for the Corps of Engineers once. Same thing with the chaps. I usually climb with chaps on so it didn't bother me much, but dang it was the height of summer and it was hot. The real kicker was that if you were on...

whadja shoot and whadja hit? Nobodys gona tell your neighbors. Bigshot confessions.

I've used mine to launch water balloons into the courtyard of an apartment complex from a friend's house. We had to double bag the balloons because the acceleration would instantly shred a single balloon. Ended up starting a huge cross-apartment water balloon fight. Walnuts and golf balls...

The new Rope Wrench ZK-2 ... What's the deal?

I like that Idea. I'll have to try that.

Odd request in the name of science--40ft pruner?

You could always hire a local arborist who can climb spikeless. With a good tie in point, he should be able to get out far enough to gather the cones. You mentioned concern about damaging the trees, but any halfway decent climber should be able to get the cones without any harm to the trees at...

    whadja do today?

This is all from yesterday, but it was kind of a crazy day so I didn't have a chance to post until now. We started the day with a great climb on a gorgeous monster white oak. My boss started deadwooding on the far side of the tree away from the house with the bucket truck while I TRIED to set my...

    Devil's Walking Stick

I can't quite tell from the pic, but if the leaves are double compound, then it is likely devil's walking stick. If the leaves are only singly compound, then it might be prickly ash. The more I look at it, I'm pretty sure it's DWS.

    Tree Motion Saddle... Safe?

I care much more about comfort and weight than I do about how 'rugged' a saddle looks. And today you pay a premium for comfort and superior strength/weight ratios, as I'm sure you noticed with the TreeMotion! My next saddle (approximately 2 years from now) will probably be something along the...

    Cement filled tree......

Man, that sucks. Why would anyone put concrete in a solid tree like that??? :bang:

Trying to Rescue My Maple, Need Advice

+1 to the above. Looks like an easy removal. Should be pretty easy to get a reasonable bid to remove from a local tree service.

Ever called upon to rescue a cat?

    Haha, it's a pillow case, but yeah.:smile2:

Ever called upon to rescue a cat?

I've rescued one once. No problems whatsoever. The cat was stuck up there for 3 days before the owner got a hold of me and asked me to get it out. Here's a pic of the cat in the bag.

POISON IVY.... Where to get a suit...

I've used techu to clean PI from my ropes and and chainsaws with good results. For the ropes, I just put my ropes in a bag and put it in the washing machine. Add about as much technu as you would detergent and presto. For saws, I just wipe down the handles and any other obvious exposed place.

    TIP failure

Good eye. It's towards the bottom of Owen St.

    TIP failure

Yeah, I got really lucky. It fell away from where I landed. I was just doing some deadwooding. Maybe 5 or 6 branches.

    TIP failure

I could have, but that limb was pointing away from the area I needed to work and I wanted a closer tie in.
