    Help With Wood ID

Been cutting firewood for about 15 years now and can't say as though I have run across one of these trees that I know of. I am in North Central Iowa and this tree is in with Oak and Ash trees that were log on a farmer's timber. I found this smaller tree to take a picture of with a branch bent...

What is fair wage for a helper splitting wood ?

You can encourage all you want but the youngsters today can't go 10 minutes with out taking a look. It is just like a drug addict they just have to have their phone fix.

Scraps to heat the garage this winter!

I use all of the pine cut offs I can find. I have to start a new fire every night in the shop when I get home from work. These nice dry pine cut offs work great for building a top down fire. They catch fire fast burn hard and are more then enough to get the regular spits below burning good.

    Good Craigslist ad?

In my experience it is a good way to get a crap ton of pine, cottonwood and willow. Give you the crap and they keep Oak, Ash and Hickory. Only have one tree company to judge this by but would not try this again.

    Buying Wood by the Pound

Cut, split and haul 8 to 10 cords a year for my OWB. Not afraid of the work one bit and rather enjoy it. This is buying wood for resale with the intent of saving some time and effort. As many of you know on this board cutting wood for a wood burner can be time consuming so saving a few steps on...

    Buying Wood by the Pound

I have 20" splits and put a little more then 1 CuFt pre bundle. I sell a minimum of 1 year split and seasoned wood. Even at this amount of wood per bundle I still make a decent profit. Last year I sold almost $2000 in bundles. So I have the profit off of these bundles to buy the wood in log form...

    Buying Wood by the Pound

I sell a little bundled firewood as a hobby. I seen an add on the local facebook swap page for firewood by the truck load. It pictured a small truck with 4 good sized logs on it filled in with a few smaller ones. I told him that it is not quite yet firewood but that conversation has been had on...

    The big rush

Point taken thank you. Not trying to start a pissing match here just merely making an observation that even thought Valley is not misrepresenting his product, to think that in and of itself will insulate him from some sue happy people that burn their house down, because of a creosote chimney...

    The big rush

That is EXACTLY what I mean. Some people are always looking to place the blame else where for things that happen that were completely their fault. And to the posters above that don't see a problem all I can say is McDonalds and hot coffee.

    The big rush

People buying wood in the middle winter are not buying to use 2 years from now. They are unloading it from your truck to their burners. I was wondering in this day and age of everyone not taking responsibility for their actions, are you the least bit concerned when someone slimes up their...

    Wood for smoking?

Smoking a loin as I type this with good and dry apple. Have a stock of Apple, Cherry and Hickory and tend to use Cherry the most. I agree very much with Buzzsawyer dryer the better and control the air flow.

Anyone else fired up their woodstove yet?

House was 62* this morning could have gotten by and waited for the expected warm up this coming week, but with more then 2 years of seasoned wood on hand no reason to not light a fire this morning. The first fire for me in North Central Iowa is 10/15.

    Questions New Woodburner Install

Checked with my Insurance Company today and was told it would not be a problem as long as it was installed by a certified dealer. (Which it will be) I know that my OWB would be the best option with in floor heat but again it is not feasible to do. Now I guess I have to check in to other options...

    Questions New Woodburner Install

Thanks for the comment. The dealer selling me the stove is telling me with good insulation in this 1500 Sq Ft building that this burner rated at 2000 Sq Ft will heat it easily. I have my doubts also.
