    Another year begins!!

Well...held off until this evening here in mid-eastern PA. We have been unseasonably warm with a few minor exceptions. Dipping hard to mid-20s by tomorrow night - so much for making it to November!

    Garage heating options

Same boat here and explored it when I moved into my current PA house. Have a detached 40x40 and "TONS" of wood. No-go on the insurance. Have a wall-mount propane from the old place but have yet to install it. Gone with portable tube type to bring it up and larger MrHeater buddy one that is...

Speeco splitter and a dead Briggs - replacement options

My 2 cents - repower with the predator (easy & cheap). What I did... Maybe look for used pto splitter since you like that option. Try them both and sell one. PS have a kubota also (but not a splitter as it was not worth the squeeze) - I do like the pto generators though!

    Wood Pile Cover Material?

I used the silver HF ones - last a few years. Another thought & Sounds crazy, but I had an old above-ground pool that was solid but replaced Cut into tarps and super tough - looks weird but I am back in the woods! :p

helo im looking for free firewood

Saw you scored some in another thread and it's been pretty warm here. Seriously, are you still looking for wood? I am about an hour away in Lehigh

When to fell an ash… now or spring?

Cut it anytime - ash is great!

Anyone ever needed a electric draft inducer?

I have a really tall masonry chimney (27') and my woodstove is in the basement. I back-drafted a number of times early on before I figured it out. Really cold day and the chimney will flow down/in every time. Smoke in the house, family w/asthma, setting off local and monitored alarms got...

Chinsaw boots - what do you wear?

I use Carolina Linesmen boots for firewooding and general all-around HD work - I don't like the higher heel/sole on logging-specific ones. I also prefer the mid-height version as a balance between ankle support & mobility

IBC Totes -- Firewood system upgrade!

OP - Those are great and you have already figured out the long game of minimizing the number of "touches" from tree to stove. I see you are in York. I haven't found any that are reasonable yet in our region, but I know they must be out there... Can you give a ballpark of cost & source? ;)

    Shag bark hickory or oak?

I have all of those and I have all of these in my woods and w/cherry it definitely depends on the tree - sometimes it is super sweet and fragrant like the fruit, other times not so much. I save the sweet heartwood for the smoker. I have two types of hickory and the seasoned shagbark will...

Should I "Treat" The Treated Plywood That Will Go On My Trailer?

I use the 3/4 treated & give it an initial coat of good quality opaque deck stain. I built sides on a very similar trailer that I have had for just under 30Y (mule or something like that?) and coat the edges of the 3/4" with silicone caulk. This last about 12-15 Y but more so due to serious...

Felling advice - split & hung up

That one in your picture broken up high is similar to my original post/situation and ask for advice. FWIW Hindsite being 20/20 - My takeaway was the best course of action was NOT to use the tractor - rather multiple tie-offs and judicious use of tension. Maybe Check out the Maasdam rope...

Really really really want a tractor

Now that is a beast! I LIKE it. Mine is unsound so I am planning on v 4.0 as something similar with all of the angle iron that I salvaged from the old-style 69kv tower on my property that the power company replaced with a monopole. I have related that saga in other threads previously - the...

Really really really want a tractor

@JRM - I think I get it but would love to see a pic when you get a chance. This may work as a further mod to what @husky455rancher is doing with those smaller pallets

Really really really want a tractor

Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked at those but run a BH normally. I am going to invest in forks for the front next. I can't find any decent ssqa ones used around here

Really really really want a tractor

I also have a 25y/o "franken-trailer" that I use with my jeep. 4x8x3h I know when it groans and sits the fenders down on the tires that's enough and time to remove a few rounds!

Really really really want a tractor

I love the concept, but at first glance, it looks top heavy & easy to dump. I am hopeful & keep us posted on how it works in practice. I have been burning solid for the last 12 years and go through about a guesstimated 5 cords per year. I am constantly thinking and working on reducing...

Felling advice - split & hung up

I appreciate all of this. I hear you... but that was NOT CUT and the weirdest thing I had ever seen. Those pics are as/is untouched tree. It broke like that during a storm. WTH, right...? In the end, I ended up doing what you said and pulled it out from the base. I just don't have the...

BK 40 billowing smoke out of the bottom of stove at cold start

Very similar physical situation to mine - check out what I do to mitigate it in post above.
