    Mac 700

Yes, I agree, the 700 is an excellent saw. I have four and have just had to convince myself not to buy my fifth one today when I saw it for sale locally.I have a friend here who is an old logger-woodsman from way back and a Mac man to the bone. He has many Macs, big and small including: 797's...

    What is this Mac?

Thankyou. Thanks to both of you. 'Wade1234' sent me a PM and then an IPL which confirmed that it is a late model 700, the same as what he has. They changed the serial numbers when these were bought out. I read your original post 'Old Mac Guy' thanks but hadn't had the oportunity to reply...

    What is this Mac?

Externally it looks like what it claims to be on the air filter cover - a Pro Mac 700. It has a black crankcase, chainbrake cover and starter cover and a green oil button.... but the serial number says 60011602 and I thought PM 700's were 600061B. Can anyone help please? Thanks a lot!

    Mac 10-10? or PM700?

I have read 'coveredinsap's thread on his 250 lately and there are some good suggestions there on how to check the stroke of a saw but what is the best way to check it's bore without stripping it? I was hoping for some obvious difference in the cooling fins or something simple like that.

    Mac 10-10? or PM700?

Hello all. How do you tell the difference between a 10-10 and a PM 700 powerhead? Are there any obvious external give-aways as to what you are looking at? Thanks.

    McCulloch 797 starter

Hello All, I need a right hand start for a McCulloch 797 to get the saw going and I am having trouble finding one so I was wondering if the start on the 795 and 740 were the same as the 797? Thanks for your help!

Help! What do I do now?

Pics of damage. Thanks for the sympathy, help and eBay link. I had been watching that saw on eBay but if I had paid that price it would cost me that much again just to get it down here unfortunately. It looked like a very nice example. When I started the 700 for the second time it immediately...

Help! What do I do now?

 I recently bought a McCulloch Pro Mac 700 and fired it up for a short time just to check it out and it ran good. A couple of weeks later I fired it up again but this time ...heaps of smoke out the exhaust and when I shut it down, heaps of oil out the exhaust. I have just stripped it down...

    Pro MAC 10-10S

Funny how things work out. It's funny how things work out. I started looking at this thread only because I'm one of those "different" people who have a love for McCullochs although I have had nothing to do with 10-10's. Then yesturday there is an ad in the paper by a guy selling an old Mac so I...

    Long Bar Photos

Yeah I thought about that when I saw the pile of logs but it was too good to pass up. All of the logs had been down about 7 years so had started to dry quite well just lying there and the gum is a very good burning, high heat output wood. What I did was; get the log lifted with the hiab and then...

    Long Bar Photos

No sorry mate, I don't have a brother. I always wanted one but now, with my dad dead at 80 and my mum going strong but 76 years old I think I'll give up wishing.

    Pro MAC 10-10S

I would like to know the answer to this also. I have been told to do the same. A couple of days ago A new member spotted a post I made where I mentioned owning a Mac Wilcat and he PM'd me asking the mix ratio. I then posted the McCulloch recomendation and then the mix ratio that I had been told...

    Whats behind the Name

Pretty obvious and boring really. "Kiwi" because I'm from New Zealand and "cutter" because I love to cut wood. Real name just as boring - John.

    Buying New Saw?

Wildcat ratio Hi Danimoor. McCulloch recomends 40:1 if you are using their genuine oil or if not, use a good SAE 40 two stroke oil at 20:1. I use 25:1. Your profile just said that you lived somewhere on earth so I don't know whether to put this ratio in imperial or metric so I'll try both. 20:1...

    What Mac is this please?

Thanks. I had already looked on Mike's site but come up with nothing. There is a 450 and then it jumps to a 510. Are the Italian saws any good?

    What Mac is this please?

Been looking at this saw but can't find out exactly what size it is or how old. I have looked at Acres collectors corner but it is not listed. It has '480' on the side and that is about it. Any info out there? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=58015581 Sorry but I don't know how...
