rock climbing rope for tree climbing?

I came from a rock climbing background, so when I started to climb I used a dynamic rope. I loved the dynamic lines and thought surely I'd use them in the trees. That thought lasted about 10'. There's just too much bounce when starting your climb if your cambium saver is 50' off the ground...

    low ballers stealing work

Also liked Treeclimber165's comment on asking for refferals. We get about a third of our business this way (we're a small company but do a good job).

    low ballers stealing work

Darin had a GREAT suggestion. Show them your proof of #1 insurance and #2 comments from happy customers that would use your services in the future. I NEVER bad mouth other specific companies, but I do let potential clients know that there are fly by night guys who claim to have insurance, but...

    Basic climbing tips

Treeclimber165 and WillClimb, i used to coach gymnastics and martial arts. my rule was that nobody was allowed to sit. afterwards, i got my masters in physical therapy and although i allowed my patients to sit and rest, i still stuck to the idea that a good work out was good for the soul...

    Basic climbing tips

wow, quite the response! good advice as well. glad you're getting some education from tree climbers companion. it's loaded! i can see how some of the posts may come across as harsh, but as others have alluded to, they're only looking out for your safety. i may be shunned for my...

    chainoil

hey guys, we've been using our saws as recommended by the manufacturer, but i've heard a lot of people talk about changing their gas:oil ratio to 50:50. is this a standard practice? does anyone do this? please let me know either way, THANKS!

    tree work w/ homeowner's ins?

although i don't know the guy and hate to pre-judge.... could he be telling clients he's "covered" (with his personal homeowners insurance for HIS property) when he's really not covered for work off his property? does sound fishy... not worth it. not worht it. -k

    why we carry insurance.

makes sense (that's why i was asking for ins. company references). i like the "going local" idea. also seems to make sense. thanks for all the advice!

    why we carry insurance.

makes me wonder what mechanism he used for falling the tree?? i mentioned in a previous thread ("insurance") that a friend of mine and i cut some trees down for a few friends and family after research, dialog with old timers, and a slow & low start. although i still believe we have a lot to...

    insurance

"actualy ascending on a belay with an inexperianced belayman is dangerous!" sorry, perhaps i gave the wrong impression here... what i meant was that the ascender was climbing with a split tail & blakes hitch while ALSO on belay. we went with this system for a couple of reasons... 1) we liked...

    insurance

ok, i have a question... my friend and i have been doing some tree removal for friends/family over the past couple of months. yes, we've talked to MANY people about techniques, shadowed a professional for a day out of curriosity (i know one day doesn't make anyone an expert), read the tree...
