ok, now what with a leaky skid steer?

I had a plan. Everyone has a plan until they get punched. I had no use for the auxiliary hydraulic valve in this machine. So, I started with the greasy plates underneath this thing. I can actually get to this thing now. Ok... The plan was to simply delete the electrical valve that looked like...

Foley vs Stihl grinder, the "slide"

So I keep referring to the Stihl USG when I get confused as to which way to set the "slide" on the Foley 308 OK, I gaze at the USG, and it says that when the vice is swiveled this a way: That would be the left hand cutters. Ok... the marks call this the negative - from zero. Lean over and...

    Pioneer P41F

The tag on the bottom says P41F, 80 is stamped for the date. Old Pioneer, not that old. but on the other hand it is 40 years... Can I fix it? he asked... :omg: So, before he even brought it out, I said it is 40 some years out of date, and if I were to put much time into it, I would be silly, or...

    more thoughts on grinders

With me, it all started with a c h e a p harbor freight grinder. it gave me a taste of what to expect. Very soon I discovered that I could hand file much better than that thing could do. Not going to poo poo where the things are made. The Tecomec is essentially a upgraded version of the Oregon...

I am getting better at this (square)

I worked on a chain yesterday, and then went out and gave it a go. :omg: is a understatement. I am getting a lot better at getting the angles right. The next thing is to figure out what to do to keep from grinding into the chassis of the chain as much. I will get there, but I am (finally)...

    Square Ground Giggles

I have tried again with the swing arm grinder. Watched that long video with Big Phil explaining it... This time, I think I got something out of it. adjusted things, and tried again... Well, I know I am not perfect, but it made me giggle watching the chips fly outta there! 064 (frankensaw) and a...

    Case 1845c

I could use a brainy kind of guy to help me sort this things hydraulics out. Ok... here is the situation, there is a dribbling hose in a really bad location. I have it "rigged" with a bunch of hose clamps. Yeah, there is a hole in the side of it... Before you state "just replace the hose" read...

    correct assessment guys...

I put that walbro on the 064, and it sure dialed in nice. Took it out to play a little this afternoon. Same situation. Ok... i got it now. when it will run, it sure runs nice. Put a load on it, and it expires quite quickly. However this carb is nice enough to tell me that we went lean and then...

carby cause it do drop dead?

I will be laying in the bed, puzzling this one out. fishing for ideas... Frankensaw quit on me today. it's a 064 with a farmertec tank on it... I love the thing. Ok... cheap china carb on there for several years. Usually it would run "ok" but idle was sometimes rich enough to die. Sometimes it...

    hauling LOGS

This year... something different. They decided to put in a road... ok. 3/4 of a mile, and 40 foot wide... Rather than block it all up, the guy with the heavy equipment just ripped the trees outta the ground. My task is to remove the stumps, limb them, and load them out on the old truck. loading...

    Foley Belsaw Bearing!!

I struggled with this machine for quite awhile, and eventually got enough carb cleaner, grease, and wd 40 into it. It would work. not real precise, but would sharpen a chain Kept surfing the web, various bearings, shafts, etc. Images... and just happened to chance upon 304 POWER TRIM EDGER...

    It's been a fun year.

I have the last 2 cords loaded up, and waiting to see if I can get over a rather nasty mountain pass, Hoosier. Meanwhile... the phone rings. You don't just wait until darn near xmas, and expect preferential treatment! There is nothing left I can really sell. What I have requires diesel fuel and...

wood delivery, and story behind it

Okay, there is a customer up here. I have delivered to them before. They started out, years ago, as being pretty good. I delivered wood, and they paid. There was one delivery that was a hassle, and then the next year. I delivered wood, and it took all the way to March of the next year to finally...

    cleaned mom's flue pipe

Oh I can hear it now... How can you neglect things like this? Easy. just get busy doing a bunch of other stuff for a couple of years. ran the brush down it, and swept it all up. Ready to go. it would probably draw better now... I will brush my stove soon...

    brakes? we don't need brakes...

Ok, gentlemen. Put on your thinking caps here. This winter, I will simply have to do something with the brakes of the old wood hauler. The more seasoned mechanics here will know what I am struggling with. 1967 Dodge, with a hydrovac booster. It "leaks" not brake fluid, but the diaphram is...

    quick opinion wanted

I am NOT starting a oil thread... Baileys used to sell 5 gallon pails of "woodsman pro" 2 cycle oil. I went thru several of them, no problems. Would the Stihl HP be about the same stuff??

    vanguard 18 surging

It has been a busy time, otherwise I would have gotten on here more often in the last few months... The homemade splitter that ended up with a 18hp vanguard is finally getting some attention. The idle circuit got me into the carb the other day, and I got that cleaned out nicely. Next thing was...

    check the simple stuff (064)

Well, I found it. Now I will order a couple spare intake boots... I was taking things apart yesterday, and I noticed this. That would make it run funny.

064 oddities, not quite yet fixed?

Replaced the crank seals already. Ran perfectly for about 1 tank. Now, it’s back to reving up, can’t get it to stabilize with carb adjustment.. ok guys… tell me it’s a bearing that is loose. I’ll test it again, but I’m figuring I’ll split the case yet on this one. Grumble…
