Want to Buy Sthil 038 drive sprocket

Not sure if you are just trying to keep it all OEM but oregon makes make sprockets for these saws, also ebay if no luck here

Buy 2 chains or buy 3 and make 2

Again not sure where you are at in Montana. There is a chain breaker and spinner on the Missoula craiglist for $50 that looks OK

    Want to Sell Custom PICKAROON

Nice pickaroon. Not sure how you are shipping this but you may see if you wrap it in bubble wrap and then packing tape or duck tape if shipping is cheaper. I used to send elk antlers like this it was not practical to find boxes to fit them in.

Jonsered 630 carb rebuild kit questions

It looks like your carb is hs218 and if you look on the listing you have posted the kit number is RK23HS. That is the Tillotson fuel rebuild kit. You can also just get the minor rebuild kit DG-5HS-T. Never bought anything from this seller that I know of but the price seems a little high. I think...

Buy 2 chains or buy 3 and make 2

Granberg makes a spinner breaker that is built on a vise grip. It works surprisingly well. I don't think it is to much of a savings over a cheaper combo. Husky chain used to be oregon chain rebranded. Not sure if it still is. I am sure you can break chain with a punch and a grinder and tie it...

    254 part questions

The 254 share a lot of parts with the 154,257,261 and 262. I don't know what a carb upgrade would be or if it is worth it. The chain brake is another story I think they are still available new just a little pricey. The recoil, top cover and chain brake are little hard to find. Someone posted a...

Buy 2 chains or buy 3 and make 2

Sounds like your on your way to a spinner. They are handy to have but I would say not needed. You will find your largest savings are switching from stihl chain to something else. It is difficult to make up the price of the spinner and breaker and the initial investment in the spool of chain...

    Jonsered 630

It all depends what your time is worth. If that is all that it needs. Jonsereds in certain models this one included have gainded interest since Jonsered has changed to Redmax. The saw looks to be in very good condition. These saws share parts with jonsered 625,630 and 670 and husky 268,61, and...

Jonsered 630 super 2 and stihl 029 super cylinder kits

You can go either way on that saw. I usually go the other way. Whats that a handle for a Stihl MS290, maybe I should build a saw around it!

Jonsered 630 super 2 and stihl 029 super cylinder kits

That is a Meteor piston. I have seen the piston you are talking about for the 268 open port not sure I have seen it for a 48mm jug. You are getting favorable results with this type of piston in a Jonsered 630 closed port 48mm? Does the piston you are talking about have 2 rings? What brands?

Jonsered 630 super 2 and stihl 029 super cylinder kits

That looks like the one. I believe the 029 had a 45mm bore and than a 46mm bore. 1127 is this series of saw. The 039 or 390 cylinder is kind of hard to find used. You basically have to go new OEM which would not be worth it in my opinion. Or aftermarket, maybe someone can steer you in what they...

Jonsered 630 super 2 and stihl 029 super cylinder kits

Is this the piston you are referring to? If not let me know where I can to find it.

    MS660 scored piston advice

The 54 usually indicate the size as you have described and you usually see them on OEM cylinders. It is the cylinders with no markings that you want to watch out for. I have an 066 and a 660, both stock. So I can not speak to porting. From what I have read the oversize cylinder or big bore kit...

    MS660 scored piston advice

If you search youtube or on here you can find a video of a guy that works on saws goes by mastermind. He did a real good video of sanding transfer. It will help you out. You will have to use coarser paper on the heavy transfer. If you have a pick or something with a fine tip, I use a dental pick...

    Big wood tomorrow

Not sure exactly where you are cutting firewood in a Montana. Most National Forests in the Northwest or Region One are offering free personal use fire wood permits right now, they are only good until June 1st. Up to 12 cords all other rules and regs apply

    MS660 scored piston advice

Yes, if the ring is stuck they generally don't run. If you pull the muffler and see scoring you likely have something that needs addressed. If you have very minor scoring or some carbon scoring they will run. I would guess trying to repair the cylinder by sanding. Meteor or OEM. I think an OEM...

    Husqvarna 154SE tip

I believe brake handle off of a 55 will work on theses saws.

    Husqvarna 257 locally

Exactly guys. The 257 won't really do anything the 350 won't do. The 350 feels lighter, seems to rev up faster, has slightly better anti vibe and does this all slightly less reliably then a 257 which is easier to work on. If you wanted this size of saw to brush or limb with go 350, if you a...

    Self analysis of a screw-up

I do not have a link but if you google it look for the forest service training manual I think it is 212. I believe there are youtube videos of their training procedures also. I know there are other sources also. A couple things I am seeing , plastic wedges and something to pound them in with. A...

    Husqvarna 257 locally

If I was selling a 257 like that. That is the price I would be looking to get out of it. Other then the open port cylinder they are a solid saw. But looking at signature it says you have a 350. Different feel, different designs, different pluses and minuses. But kind of the same class of saw...
