    Fiskars

Finally got out in the woods today. Bought a Fiskars long-handled splitting axe after hearing so many good reviews of it. Best hand splitter I've ever used. I still haven't got it into some real big stuff or anything tough like hickory, but I figure it will do good there too.

Who's Got The Best Lawn Mower/Tractor On AS?

Ferris IS1500 zero turn. 48 in., 21 HP Kawasaki. These are the mowers with the suspension. I'll never own anything else.

    Scare

Old feller told me once to make the stump cut on a blowdown first, and get the standing-up over with when you are expecting it. You have to use a wedge or prop it with a block of wood, usually, to keep from pinching the saw. And I mean "feller" in the generic sense.

    Insert Glass

I've noticed glass being mentioned in a couple of threads, so I had a question. My sister broke the glass in her Buckstove insert and I had an old insert (don't remember the brand ) that I took the glass out of, cut it and installed in her doors. The deal is this: Did they use some type of...

    ashley insert

I have this insert and I don't think it has a converter on top. Mine works fine, it's not connected to stove pipe or anything, but it dumps smoke into a good lined chimney with a good draw.

Any reservations about a Fiskars X27 for short people?

I'm 5'7" and I like my mauls and axes to have long handles. Keeps my feet safer and gives me more leverage on the swing.

what is the wrong with stihl dealers??

A while ago I wanted a loop of skip chain to use on a long bar on my 440. Dealer didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Said Stihl didn't make any such. Showed him where it was in the Stihl catalog. " Oh, I guess they do " he says. He called the sales rep or whoever and you would have...

    saw mill opinions

Did you use the 044? How did it do? Thinking of the same thing for 440, on a limited basis.

    Fireplace Insert

I have an Ashley from the eighties that is set up similar to yours. It just exhausts into into the chimney. I have been wondering the same thing about an adapter in case I ever decided to pipe it. I guess it would have to be fabricated. By the way, I seem to have no issues with it set up like it...

    Is this a locust sapling?

Looks more like what we call a thorn tree over here. I think they're some kind of acacia. The leaves look a little small to be locust, but I'm no expert.

Lost my Dad, lets share the "Firewood words of wisdom" that Dad passed on to you!

Very sorry for your loss. Lost my Daddy two years ago. Grew up cutting wood with him. One of the biggest lessons he taught me was to respect a tree. Saw a barberchair catch him in the chin one day. Thought it had killed him. Did knock him clean out. After that he was real careful and taught me...

    Just can't get wound up...

I've always cut all summer but this year the heat has about got me, think it's my blood pressure meds. Gonna have a good talk with my Doc when I see him this month. Anyhow, I'm about two years ahead so I haven't fought it this year. If I don't take the meds I feel fine to get out and work, but...
