    Poulan 4000

I have had a 25" full skip on mine and that is as long as I would go. I would leave the saw stock if me. If you do open up the muffler, make sure you turn more fuel to it. Also, I have owned several and everyone has some play in the crank bearing pockets when you shake the PTO. I eventually...

    Stihl ms 290/310

The impulse line is bad to crack on those fast.

    Stihl 034 serial number

Everyone I have worked on with that old filter the flocks is about gone with nothing left but a screen. The saw has ingested lots of sawdust to the point it needs crank bearings. I would replace that with a new one.

What are the most valuable collector saws?

I like some of the older Poulin's. The 5200, 5400 and 8500 if in good shape don't go cheap and good saws. I have owned a lot of 3400, 3700, 3800 and 4000s, but the bigger ones are hard to find in good shape and cost a war pension.

Most reliable Stihl chainsaw of all time?

    Those 036 s and 044 s were also reliable.

    Stihl 192T + 193T

I deleted the post as I know the little chain saws pretty good, but probably the only thing I have not done is compare the cranks and I wasn't 100% sure if they were the same and cost somebody money. A lot of parts do not interchange between these saws especially the 192T s and the others.

    036 stihl pro

Looks nice. Chainsaw prices are off usually a little around this time of year. I would say if the piston/compression is up there $360-$410 range. I paid $500 for one last year that still had the original chain with very little wear. You can't go exactly by Ebay prices. You take out...

    Best Echo Chainsaw

My CS2511t and CS490 are as good as any. I have come close a few times but never gotten a CS590 yet. The CS590 IMO is pretty heavy for the power, but a good saw with a strong back.

400c Rumors… or just internet trolls.

There is always that one. The NASA space shuttle is not perfect with the best engineers in the world.

    Break in time for titanikel

With a nice cylinder compression will be good from the start. With a cylinder that has been cleaned up with some minor imperfections you will gain compression after a few tanks. I have had a few go from around 120 compression and after a few tanks hit close to 150.

Blown Stihl 036 with 1 hour on rebuild. What happened?

That is a good buy on the meteor piston. Clean the cylinder up good and that piston will make good compression.

    Stihl MS271

I started to rebuild a MS271 and the cylinder in the cylinder about halfway up was leaking. It must have been cracked as I have never seen this before. No way I buy a new cylinder with the cost for one of those. IMO not a very good chainsaw. The MS251, Ms271 and MS291 IMO are not near as...

Blown Stihl 036 with 1 hour on rebuild. What happened?

On a nice saw just get good parts. If you have a Poulan beater buy junk for it. I hope your cylinder is still good.

    Sloppy rebuild

Trash the piston and get a new one. As bad as that piston looks may need a cylinder also.

    MS230 Possible air leak

Try and new carb first as said they can look good but are not. It sure saves a lot of time messing with a carb that no matter what you do can't be fixed. Don't buy the Aftermarket junk either as they are half price of a good carb and will never run right.

    MS230 Possible air leak

Try another carb and if all else pressure test.

What actually is a good saw?

I like the saws that were built about 15-20 years ago. If parts available can be rebuilt over and over and not cost a lot. The newer saws in a few years will be throwaways.

    Hydraulic Chainsaw vs Conventual Chainsaws

Hydraulic chainsaw around here are being used in the mines and bucket trucks. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages? Will they perform as good as the Stihl/Husky etc. chainsaws?

Husqvarna 372 big end rod bearing replacement.

Usually a bad big end bearing will destroy the saw. I bought one that the cylinder/piston was bad as a bearing got lose and knocked a hole in the case also. If that is the problem get the best OEM one you can find cause when they go they do a lot of damage. The 372xp looked to be low hours...
