    Made New Wedges

I cut some new wedges from some white poly cutting boards today. I thought they might slide in easier than wood wedges, and I was right. They're a lot smoother than wood and have less drag, so they take a lot less effort to knock in. The bad news was that they also made the slab pretty slick...

    Stopping splitting and cracking

A lot of one of my stacks of milled oak have started splitting on one end. Would it be good to cut the ends off and re-seal them after the cracks, or is it just destiny to be split.

Does Anyone here mill with an electric chainsaw?

I have; I am. I use a craftsman corded electric 110v. It's a 4hp, 18 inch bar. It works. Yes, you have to go slower, and yes the motor heats up and I stop for a bit. It makes for a nice break from the noise and exhaust of the gas powered one. Craftsman stopped making the 18" one, so now you can...

    New Ripping Chain Issue

I've been milling some oak with a Granberg ripping chain that was bought many years ago, but was new. I ordered 2 new chains from granberg a few weeks ago, and put one on today. Suddenly the slab cuts are horrible. I checked the saw over, and it seems fine. The only difference was the new chain...

Milled Some White Oak Last Month

I just milled my first oak. It got separations and cracks all over the top the next day. Is that common?

Want to Sell Old Homelite Super 2 Saw and Case

I've had this since new back in the late 1980's. Used it a lot. Had trouble with the oiler system and tried to fix, which worked for a while then quit again. I put it away for several years. Had to empty that section of the garage this week to get a new roll-up installed. Don't want to store it...

    Vermont castings.

I would rethink that a whole lot. A good welder/fabricater is still not an engineer; unless you're that too, I'd buy from those who are.

How do you beat the fly by night tree people

My neighbor had a dead Accacia tree in the front yard when they moved in last year. this tree was really dead, and very dry. about 50 feet tall, and the bark was just hanging on. I warned them about the thing snapping in a wind and falling on their fence, house or car. She took some bids the...

Firewood Seller Charged With Felony Theft By Deception

There are elderly, ailing people in this world who deserve the protection of our government. It's the least they can do after the people have paid and paid taxes to support these often overpaid, underworked public servants whom more often than not work for bloated bureaucracies, and often it...

    harbor freight log splitter

My brother-in-law has a HF splitter, and I've borrowed it. My experience with it has brought me to the conclusion that it spits fluid out because the RPM's are too high. When it does this, the fluid is usually too hot from same. Slow it down slightly and see if that doesn't cure your problem...
