Tree falls on my property who's wood is it?

Sorry I ruffled your feather Philbert. I am out of here, more heat than light me thinks, was not trying to elevate myself, just advise by what authority and experience I was giving my opinion, which seems to carry weight regarding some topics on this forum, obviously not this one. I'll let...

Tree falls on my property who's wood is it?

Ken, I agree with you regarding branches, Not the whole tree if it comes down in a storm. Your neighbors property cannot encroach on your property. Thats not what the OP was talking about. And regarding the cattle example, I had to laugh out loud. Your neighbors cow wanders onto your...

Tree falls on my property who's wood is it?

Philbert, I have been a property/casualty adjuster for 20+ years, with the last 13 as V.P. of Claim for a Regional Insurance Carrier that writes business in 9 states. I handle all the litigation files for the company. Guess I have been doing it wrong for all those years.

Tree falls on my property who's wood is it?

With the neighbor living 3 hours away, He obviously wasn't going to get their anytime soon to take care of it, nor do I suspect he would have been willing to hire someone to get it off your property, but he could raise a stink if you never gave him the opportunity to respond and simply cut up...

Tree falls on my property who's wood is it?

It works that way in most states. It is still his tree. By falling on to your property it did not change ownership. You have a right to get it off your driveway. He has a responsibility to get it off your property but he needs to have notice and to take care of it in a reasonable time period...

Tree falls on my property who's wood is it?

Its his wood, plain and simple. No you should not have had to cut it up, but you have a right to get it off the road and he should have taken care of that in a reasonable time period. If not then he should have made arrangements to have it removed asap. Probably why he did not make too much of...

Almost that time of year again.

The Weather guessers are calling for a cooler than normal fall (Sept. through Nov. ) in many parts of the US. We shall see. I do not plan on lighting up the OWB until November, but my plans could change. At present I will let the Mini split take the chill off in the morning or let the oil...

    Tired of Dull Chains

IMO learn to hand sharpen. And IMO the bench grinder is not the holy grail of sharpening. I have a Bench Grinder that I rarely use for myself, but use for others who demo their chains. For routine sharpening a grinder take a lot of material away fast. If you rock a chain or hit some metal...

How do you deal with all the Splitter Scraps

I try to split my wood in the woods. If I have to bring rounds home to split I'll rake the splitter trash up and use a snow or coal shovel to toss em onto a brush pile. I always seem to have one of them on the property. When I sweep out the truck bed I do it out back of the pole building and...

    Deuce and a Half

Brings back memories for me. Drove one about every day when stationed in Germany back in the 70's. We hauled our K-9's around to our posts in them.

Fastest you destroyed a new chain!

Only had two rounds cut off a huge black birch when I hit a strand of barbed wire. Toasted a new chain. I was partway up the side of a ridge with mature trees all around me and 50 yards from the nearest field. Back in the day they must have grazed cows half way up the mountains around here.

    2014 Season

Old maybe... Lazy.... maybe your a wannabe on that score. The way you've been humpin to get the wood in, me thinks the old boy still has some fire in his bones:) Kind of blows my mind that a WV man can't burn coal. Seems un American somehow. At the least, un West Virginian.

Why is Rock Elm so good ?

It does not sound like rock elm if it is light. I cannot speak for rock elm personally because I have never had any. But I have burned Slippery (Red) elm and agree it is on par with Red Oak. If Rock Elm is denser than Red Elm it wouldn't be light weight when seasoned. I suspect that where...

    2014 Season

Beautiful home and yes your well on your way. Looks like you worked hard and your getting the plan accomplished. Nice looking wood. Glad your furnace will eat the mix without any issues. Do you ever mix your wood with any coal? BIT coal is pretty cheap here in PA and you have loads of it...

    So, this guy I know...

You already have. Again, I choose to see the glass half full, even as regards my signature. Nuff said. Lets let the OP have his topic.

    So, this guy I know...

True, but the guy could have just dumped it anywhere or given it to someone else. He gave it to Spidey:) You certainly may be right, but I chose to see the glass half full. Based on the previous posts, Spidey is the one who sucks:)

    Accuweather Forecast for Fall 2014

Ahhh, the weather guessers are at it already. What would we do without them? I 'll wait for the Farmers Almanac to tell me what this coming winter will bring. Better yet, let me put a call into my Uncle Freddy, he predicts the weather by his arthritis. I believe he's at least on par with the...
