Any "ethical" ways to practice spiking up trees?

go find some videos on limb walking, DRT and or SRT (dual rope technique/Single rope technique) in general though if its a half dead tree, its soon to be a completely dead tree so don't worry about spiking up, just take the whole thing down.

    Show me your shop

this is an image of my shop > < or a tatami mat to keep me out of the mud, or an arkansas creeper.. (cardboard) I do have a DISservice truck, and the forge shed, which is where most of the saw maintenance goes down. All that said, my folks have a HUGE shop 60x70? 3 stories tall with a pit...

    Generational Logging?

a good deal of it is simply witch craft. The mills have their preferred lengths, meaning the lengths that make them the most money, its not always the same lengths that make YOU the most money Theres a good deal of individual judgement involved in bucking, starting with what the mill will...

    So my neighbor did this

If said tree does fall because of them reckless cuts, and does cause damage, then your neighbor is at fault, since its no longer considered a natural accurance (sp?) i.e. an act of "god" OR the fence installer would be liable Really depends on who decided that carving up a healthy tree for...

    Minimum amount to run saws?

try a local marina? Otherwise I hope you can get the canned fuel.

    Overworking a chainsaw.

to answer the original question, you absolutely can overwork a saw, with the right fuel, sharp chain, and a "normal" length bar. But you have to really try hard to do it, milling comes to mind, forcing a small saw to cut large wood and trying to "force" the chain through the wood. However its...

    Carb with no limiter caps

I think the limiter caps keep you from screwing them all the way out rather then all the way down, which is how you set them to "standard" screw em all the way in and back em off x turn/s Either way, they are mostly meant to keep dummies from over "tuning" a saw so if you know how to tune one...

    Minimum amount to run saws?

I think the easy starts of modern cars has more to do with the fuel injection system then anything, timing, air/fuel, are all metered according to ambient temp as well as motor temp even before you start the car the pooter has its initial numbers ready to go. which is pretty cool, even if I'd...

    Minimum amount to run saws?

^^ thats to say nothing of my venerable ms260, that up until a few weeks ago was half torn apart living in the Forge that isn't exactly weather proof for the last 3 years, its been squished by logs twice, chucked 40' down a cliff (on purpose...), dropped from 80' up a tree, and has cut more...

    Minimum amount to run saws?

lots of opinions, heres mine Either run it until its out, or dump the gas out and then run it until its dry, then ignore them until needed Use good 2 smoke oil get the stuff with preservatives (the orange Stihl stuff works great, but there are yet more opinions) cheap gas is worse then anything...

Son gased my brand new MS180

nah, the piston metal is just smeared over it. Sadly its probably going to be cheaper to buy a new saw than to rebuild this one, unless you do the work yourself even then its going to be close. Its not difficult, just some fidly small parts, if I can do them without any instructions anyone can

Does sawdust get into your modded muffler?

it rains pretty much constantly here, so my saws are generally left in the rain no matter what, only issue I've ever had as far as saw performance was when the decomp button gets pushed and the saw doesn't get run for a few days, it will fill the piston/crank up with water, which is also a PITA...

Does sawdust get into your modded muffler?

it could potentially be an issue if the saw is not running I guess? But also that spark arrestor is there for a reason, and its not to keep junk out, pretty easy to start a fire without it, granted not for most folks just cutting firewood rounds, but I've set dry moss and leaves on fire multiple...
