    Ontario ice storm 2013

Been working pretty much non stop since the storm hit, 16 hour days, came home xmas morning to see my wife and son and headed back out the door, now that everyone has power restored we're doing hazard and hanger removal throughout mississauga, home owners have been gracious for the most part...

    Chainsaw Chaps questions

Whenever someone asks about leg protection I always strongly recommend a full wrap pant or chap, reason being if you do hit your leg with the saw it can pull the protection to the side and still cut you.

how did you handle your first climb

I was very lucky my first climb, it was a massive oak cabling job, the second climber hadn't shown that day, I was able to climb with the owner, to this day I still hear his voice in my head, I put my full trust and respect for this job to learning with him. That was 1998, and he had 25 years at...

Started climbing in 98, I've always been a big guy, 6' 6" currently 228 lbs, I have bad shoulders and my knees bother me sometimes, I also hit the gym every morning and do an actual workout 4 days a week after work, I keep myself in good shape because other than trees I don't know jack.

    Petzl 'Dis-Service'

Not sure how it is where you are, but if a piece of equipment is missing it's ID / manufacturing tag it is no longer allowed in service, I realize it was your saddle, and you used it exclusively, but petzl has absolutely no idea of that, they are covering their ass as they should, a saddle in...

    Clearing hydro

The hydro lines in Bala are owned by Hydro One, you'd have a hard time getting them out there to clear the line for you. I can give you the info of a certified guy in the area if you wish to PM me.

I'm lucky to have the injurys I have

Glad to hear you're pulling through, was there no emergency stop with the upper controls? Whether it was on lower or upper selector it should have stopped the hydraulics.

killing manitoba maple and lilac bush

In Ontario you need a Pesticide License to purchase or use Tordon 101. Or you will have to hire a company with an applicators license to spray for you, although you would have to check your local and provincial laws as it may not be usable in your area. I've always had good results keeping...

    Empty bucket trucks left up?

A lot of times it's for storing tools, we leave ours up once monthly overnight, than measure the hydraulic rams in the morning for "drift" if they have fallen at all it tells us our holding valves are not functioning properly, we also do daily valve checks as well, which is a different procedure...

Stihl HT Pole Pruner Carrier Support System

We've got them at work, they're very adjustable, so once you find your comfy spot, don't let anyone else use it lol. I usually take mine home on weekends and use it for my weed eater, really takes the strain off your arms and shoulders for both applications.

Worn out bee line cord after 7 climbs?

I don't climb on a VT myself, but if that's what it's supposed to be it's definitely wrong.

    knive to bedknive clearance

If I'm not mistaken, on almost all vermeers i've worked with there is a piece of metal bent like a hockey stick bolted to the access door for the knives, that is your bedknife / knife clearance gauge, if it's not there 1/8 sounds bang on to me.

How to handle major hazard? Rotting tree hung with power lines.

Without a pic any opinion on this is worthless. Call the hydro prvider, I'm sure they'd rather do it.

line clearance guys just make me laugh!

I currently work for the Company you speak of, a lot of things have changed, I've met more arborists working here than I ever did in the private sector, out of my crew of 12, 9 of us are certified arborists, 6 of us are OTAB certified, and all of us are utility arborists. We're actually in the...

    Wich saw ??????

Although I wouldn't recommend a 200T as a ground saw, if the 200 is what you want go with a rear handle 200, safer in my opinion, but I am curious why you wouldn't want to run your 361 for smaller stuff, ya it's a bit heavier, but has a lot more grunt, and I think running a 200 on firewood would...
