Yes mine too took some heat and opened can. Be careful it will make it a lot louder. If I was to do it over I would just open up behind outlet and try that first.

I removed everything inside muffler and opened area behind cover plate and opened it up some. Basically a can with a outlet. That's the way my 036 came from fractory before EPA.

I folded open the front cover and removed the baffles. Drilled out opening behind the outlet cover. It is a little loud now. May want to try leaving baffles and try just opening the outlet.

I modded mine with the Wt 215 and muffler mod. That's all I did. Not a ported saw.

Look for thread MS 180 carb replacement. It is a Wt 215 carb. I think this thread was started by bssnelling. Don't know how to tag him on this.

I installed a adjustable carb from a MS 250 works great. Had to drill cover and plug one hole in carb. There is a old thread on this here somewhere. Open muffler it will run great

Make sure you are running correct gauge chain to. A .050 on a .058 gauge bar can cause same problem too.

Looking for Efco 156, 165, 162' parts saw . Want like to put back for parts and need parts for 156 project I have now.

I used hydraulic oil that came out of my splitter after that ran out switched to vegetable oil no problems. Saw it here and gave it a try. Works great so far, I'm just a fire wood hack. By the way I put it in tide bottles, built in funnel easy to see oil in tank too.
