    Help ID'ing This Tree,,,Please

I believe you may have hit the nail on the head. I looked at some pictures on the net and read a bit, and everything I read and see points to Eastern Cottonwood. Thanks for all the replies.

It didn't have that distinct Sassafras odor to it. May be Butternut?

    Help ID'ing This Tree,,,Please

This wood is fairly soft. Cuts like poplar or pine. I took it down last spring. I went over the weekend and hauled 2 loads home, (then truck broke down). The bark is now falling off and has a layer of thin stringy stuff under it, much like Walnut would have. Not sure if any of that info will be...

    Help ID'ing This Tree,,,Please

There is one pic shown that has the buds in it. There are 32 buds on that stem in a length of approximately 4 to 5 inches. Not sure if that will help or not.

    Help ID'ing This Tree,,,Please

I have asked around in my area (Middletown, VA) and have got a different answer each time. The answrs range from Black Gum, Wild Cherry, Berry Tree, etc. Thought I would put a few pics on here and see if someone can ID this tree for me. Depending on what it is will dictate where it ends up at...

    288 Redemption!!!

It has a black tag. I'm only going by what one of the girls said that checked for me when I called the Husqvarna support line. I asked her to date the SN for me and she said 1991. But of course that's the same one that sent me the parts breakdown that was missing the chain brake page which is...

    288 Redemption!!!

I noticed you asked what year your 281 was built. I have SN- 7050371. I was told by Husky that it was built in 1991. Good luck on your re-build.

    Wood stove and insurance question

The Wife just told me this morning that she was working with the Insurance Company on some pricing and told them we had started using our insert. OOPS. Right away a $20.00 increase per something. And now they are set to come here Monday and take pictures and what ever it is they think they...

    Learning Curve

I get what your saying. I do not "damp" mine down at all. Is a Buckstove Insert. Stoke it full of whatever comes out of the pile next and let it burn.I went to bed at just before 10 last evening (way early for me). Got up at 4 this morning, cleaned the ash from the front of the pile, and filled...

    Mid night re-fueling

I have a Buckstove Insert. Can't remember the model, but is on it's 2nd year of use. We heat 4000 sq ft with it. It is advertised at capable of heating 3600. I use the central heat fan to move the air through the house. Had a 14" x 14" return put in the ceiling directly above the fireplace when...

Snow in the air For Tennessee

So are they. I am ready except for one thing. Gotta go up on a job in the morning and get the track back on my 289 and bring it off the mountain. Then it can snow for a week if it wants.

    Stacking VS Piling

Mine gets piled up, then loaded with a loader. No sense wasting time stacking it. Gets dumped at the customers, they can stack it if they like.

    !st fire of the season

Threw some paper in a couple of days ago and lit it off to try to get rid of the stink bugs that had migrated dowwn into the stove. Must have got some then, but when I opened the door to clean it today, there were a bunch of them still in there. Crammed it full of packing paper and lit it off...

Woodstove only stays lit with door cracked open

Just a thought, is the draft/burn control wide open. I never choke mine down for those "long" burns, but if ya close it, the fire will definitely drop way down . Just a thought.

Awww, man? they gave me this??

I had the same mentality for years. Phones are for callin. That's it. Worked for me for years. Earlier this year I found myself in a position that I either had to stay with my computer , for the e-mails, etc, etc, for a business deal I entered into, or get a phone that would allow me to go out...

    Scrounging for a Score?

Sounds like a guy looking for free firewood to me. The fact that he hung around is a bit unsettling though.

Regarding the value of burning firewood.

I ended my travelin days a year ago last August. The previous winter our fuel oil bill was just over $3000.00. First thing I did was go buy an insert for the house. Had plenty of wood from my cuttin and splittin "hobby". Had probably close to 40 cords split , all Oak and Hickory. Bought 200 gals...
