    Husky 242 Rebuild

I recently acquired a 242 in good shape except for a scored jug and piston. I have ordered a standard rebuild kit, including jug, piston, ring, wrist pin, clip etc. What kind of checks should I do on the bottom end that will let me know if the crank bearings are ok? I am fairly mechanically...

    ebay 034 update....

Nice looking saw. My 034 is the only saw I bought brand-new in 1995. It's been a great saw. I keep a 16" bar on mine, although it'd probably pull a 20" without too much trouble. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Congrats, -Dave

    Hazy 026 Pro purchase - How'd I do?

After a few tall glasses of scotch last night, I was browsing on ebay and before I knew it I had purchased an 026 Pro. I know it may not have been the wisest of purchases, but I've been wanting to add one to my stable for quite a while now. $250 delivered w/ new GB bar and chain. Supposing...

    Question about Alpine Magnum mini-stumpers

I guess I've been caught up in all the good things I've heard too, seem like they're the ticket for hard to reach areas. I would love to try to run the thing with one of my existing saw powerheads to save about 1000 off the price. . . A really nice looking one went on ebay a week or two ago...

    Question about Alpine Magnum mini-stumpers

Considering buying the lightweight Alpine Magnum stump grinding machine. It is available from the factory with a Stihl TS760 powerhead or the 3120 Husqvarna. Do you guys think I could get away with operating it with my Stihl 660 powerhead? It's 20cc smaller and may have less torque. . ...

Whats the first NEW chainsaw you ever purchased?

1996 Stihl 034. Been a great saw. I was always envious of Dad's 026 though, as it had the side chain tensioner and was such a mean little saw. Now I've got an 044 and a 660, but I've got an eye on a new 260 Pro here in the next few months.

Chain saw as air travel luggage?

I just checked an 044 and a 660 from Houston to Syracuse NY. Along with bars and chains, I had exactly 50 lbs (all you're allowed) in the roller duffel. I drained oil and gas, wrapped them in platic and a few towels, and they survived the flight just fine. I didn't volunteer what I was...

What type of vehicle do you take to

Oliver 770 with bucket loader and Fransgard winch for cutting and skidding. Use chains and loaded tires during firewood season. Then use a converted manure spreader for hauling out the wood. Sometimes take the loader off as the tractor is a lot more manueverable in the tight spots without it...

    Building a Circle Mill

You can snag decent deals on large circular mills if you keep your eyes open. Family runs a small farm and woodlot in upstate NY and we recently upgraded our 36" Belsaw that ran off flat belt or pto drive. Picked up an Ireland 6 and a Ford Commander 6000 (75 hp diesel tractor) to run it for...

    Torquing a clutch

My 044 is a 70cc saw and the clutch is torqued to 37 ft*lbs. Your saw may be similar if thread pitch and shaft diameter are close. Hope this helps. -Dave

Torque specs for 044 clutch nut?

Putting my clutch back together and wondering if anyone knows the torque spec the clutch nut on a 044. Should I use any goop on the threads? Either loctite or never seize? Thanks guys!

WTB - Outer bucking spike for a Stihl 660

In the market for the clutch cover bucking spike for a Stihl 660. Loctite just doesn't seem to cut it, next time I'm tack welding the nuts! Thanks, -Dave
