    Stihl Paint?

That will happen if you do not allow the paint to fully cure. JL

    Stihl Paint?

I used the Valspar Ford Grey and Valspar New Kubota Orange from Tractor Supply. They both seemed to match the closest IMO to my old 041's original paint. The orange is a touch brighter, but it's so close it's hard to be critical. Before: After: JL

Burning Stumps - feasible or a pipe dream?

Post hurricanes Rita and Ike, I had several stumps that needed removed. They were oak varieties and a couple of Chinese tallow trees. They will burn. It's a S...L...O...W process and takes patience, but a good soaking with diesel fuel and some patience will get and keep them burning. The oaks...

Stihl 290 a good choice for homeowner?

I've seen several MS290's at local pawn shops for less than $250. All of them in excellent condition, with 18-20" bars, and most look as if they had minimal use. Being the best selling saw means that they are everywhere, and that they are common enough to be fairly cheap on the used market. No...

    Stihl 028AVEQ fuel tank compatability

I noticed that when looking over the available replacement starter covers. I'll do some more digging to compare. JL

    Stihl 028AVEQ fuel tank compatability

I'm not too worried about cold...it rarely gets below freezing here for more than about a week at a time. These will mostly see firewood cutting before winter, hurricane cleanup(hopefully not any more after the last 2), and some brush/land clearing, so no worries about cold and brittle cases. JL

    Stihl 028AVEQ fuel tank compatability

I'm looking at the 028AVEQ Super I recently acquired, and in the future at some point it'll need a fuel tank/handle assembly simply due to age and dry cracking. It's of course the plastic version of the tank/handle. I'm seeing some metal tank/handle assemblies for sale that I'll assume are from...

    The Official "Buckin'" Thread

I saw far too many nice large Oaks bucked up into manageable pieces for the cleanup crews to load after the two hurricanes that blew through here on '05(Rita) and '08(Ike). It was sickening seeing all of the 30"+ oaks chopped into 18-24" chunks for those cleanup guys to take to the chipper...

    Restoring an 041 Farm Boss

With my past experience on 4-stroke automotive engines, I'd say yes, it should help a bit. How much, I dunno. Anything that disturbs airflow by introducing turbulence in an intake port will cause flow restrictions, and therefore loss of power/torque. How much this disturbs a 2-stroke is a...

    Restoring an 041 Farm Boss

Thanks guys-it's been a fairly easy project so far. I used Brad's suggestion on paint, and picked up the Ford Grey and New Kubota Orange instead of Allis-Chalmers Orange. It's really good quality paint-but I'm limited to spray cans, so curing time is much longer than a good spray gun and adding...

    Restoring an 041 Farm Boss

Almost done. I'm waiting on a few items to finish it completely, and I'm not gonna put any fuel in it for a couple of weeks so the paint has plenty of time to cure. It's still needing a better condition handguard, and I've got a new 20" Stihl ES bar and RSC chain that'll be here tomorrow, a...

    Restoring an 041 Farm Boss

Today's progress: I've decided not to fill anymore on the inside of the clutch cover-the repair is plenty solid, and it's simply not needed. Here's the pics: And with the clutch cover "fitted" to check the lines of the repair: As soon as some more of my parts show up,and the...

    Old Stihl 041AV

That's an excellent price on a great piece of equipment. Some complain that they're heavy, or the AV sucks on them, but IMO-there's not a single saw made today that will last anywhere near as long as those old 041s will. Plus, they sound great when working, or even just idling. JL

    Restoring an 041 Farm Boss

It's from an old storm door screen that the frame was broken on. I've held onto it for awhile now for some reason-just kept thinking I'd need it for something.....Now we know why :D I had to clean up my little shop a few weeks ago,and it was an almost painful process-tossing things in the bed of...

    Restoring an 041 Farm Boss

Update..... Came home from work this evening, and the JB is cured,so time to grind/touchup before the other layer. Inside of the clutch cover area: Outside of the case after a bit of shaping and prep for the next layer: The outside layer applied to flush up the case edges: I'm...

    Restoring an 041 Farm Boss

I actually ordered a few things from you on eBay a few days ago. An 028 Manual, a couple of tensioners and an 041 air filter. I could use an impulse line, a set of bar studs and nuts. JL
