    Timberwolf Manual Lift

I've had good success with the manual lift and found it to put very large rounds onto the splitter given the right amount of muscle. At times I wish I had gone with the TW-2 with the hydraulic lift, but overall I've been very pleased with the TW-1 and manual lift option. Below is some large oak...

Wood ID - some kind of cherry?

After reading that, there's no doubt in my mind it's Chinese elm. Thanks! Can't wait to split it! Kinda surprised I've never come across it before, given that it's fairly common.

Wood ID - some kind of cherry?

That's what I was thinking about the bark. Kind of unique. Somewhat like sycamore. I can post a pic once it's cut, but I thought someone would recognize the bark right away.

Wood ID - some kind of cherry?

Was wondering what kind of tree this is. It has a very unusual patterned bark and I don't recall ever seeing this. The leaves are small and look similar to black cherry, but the bark is throwing me for a loop. Anyone know what this is?

Burn Barrel - Burn Right Products

All of the comments here are spot on. My neighbor has the exact same unit and while it may be the "Cadillac" of burn barrels, he never uses it. Just takes too long to wait for the stuff to burn down and add more. He now just throws it all in a big pile, ignites, and saves himself a lot of time...

    Red Cedar

Thanks for all the great info. I was going to leave it there, but guess now I'll be headed back tomorrow to get it!

    Red Cedar

Is it likely to produce more creosote than burning hardwoods such as oak, walnut, etc?

    Red Cedar

Just wondering if using red cedar in the indoor wood burner is possible. I did a quick search and noticed that some folks said they use it for firewood but most say not to and that it is best used for fence posts, etc. I was lucky to score a number of downed trees when a homebuilder friend of...

Sthil MS192tc vs MS201T? Advice please

Go with the 201T. Send Brad a PM - he'll get the saw, work his magic, and send it to your front door at a very, very reasonable rate. You'll thank yourself each and every time you pick up the saw that you spent the extra $.

    help to id firewood

Sure looks like elm to me. I've spent plenty an afternoon cursing that stuff while splitting. Burns pretty nice though.

My new log splitter Timberwolf p-1

Good call on not buying the 4 way or table grate. While I am very happy overall with the P1, I don't like the design of either either the grate or the 4 way for this particular model. I did buy them with the splitter, but no longer use either of them. The 4 way will dull and damage the...

    Humour!

Another reason why you should always wear chaps.;)

    Your first chainsaw.

7 and counting First one was a 290, which I got when I moved out into the country and toasted within a year. Luckily through this site I got hooked up with Bucknfeller and he made a real saw out of it. :rockn:

What should I ask Mrs Claus for Christmas?

This may be a bit of a stretch, but I'm asking for a 201T that comes with a round trip ticket to Franklin, OH.

    Scored cylinder and piston

Couldn't get the MS 290 to start the other day, so I took it to the dealer. They came back with some bad news - scored cylinder and piston and said it was not worth fixing (supposedly a victim of running it lean). I've since done some research and see that some folks have performed these fixes...

Tell me about those little electric splitters

I've got the 5 ton DR version. Bought it new a couple of years ago and have had no problems with it. Would be great for turning slabs into kindling. I only use it when I get the urge to split and the weather is not cooperating. Very nice to bring some wood into the garage and fire up the...

Just about ready to turn down free wood drop off's

Pics? I guess I'll ask the obligatory question.... Where's the pics? I'm STILL waiting for my first hedge score.....

    Burl walnut?

Was enjoying an afternoon of splitting when all of the sudden came across the nastiest, gnarliest, ugliest hunk of wood I've ever seen. The splitter didn't so much split it as it did compact and squish it. After running it through about a dozen times at every possible angle, the dang thing...

    Adios, Dr. Todd

Some sad news to report (along with a cool picture). My good friend, neighbor, and lumberjackin' mentor just moved 1000 miles south. He referred to himself as the "Senior Lumberjack" and delegated "Junior Lumberjack" status to me. While he did teach me just about everything I know about...

    Quick Opinion needed on splitter

Pass. Mine sits in the garage collecting dust since I bought the X27. I've found that if the X27 can't split it, the trusty 5 ton won't either.
