    Heat pump water heater?

Late to the party here. I have had the geo spring for 5 years now. It drops my basement temp 1 to 2 degrees. My basement is not insulated here in NH, on a 0 degree night and say 10* day, my basement would be 53* with the HPWH it is 51*/52*. For 7 months of the year it is FREE hot water and I...

How much would you pay for a DR kinetic splitter?

I have heard some bad things about them. Only good things about the SS, I would wait and get the tried and true one.

    Got me an 85cc saw

She has been put to good use. Sure makes getting big wood easier, also seems since I got that there has been a lot more big wood opportunities. Which is funny because I'm the type that if I buy an umbrella, we will hit a record drought. But if I start painting the house it will rain for 40 days...

    Woodstove Efficiency Debate

It really is impossible to calculate. There are to many variables. Every stove is different, same with chimney, quality/dryness of fuel, heat load, house, and operator. One would think burning wood is real basic, but if you think about it, it is the most complex of any of the fuels. Its not just...

    kindling

Drier lint is good, plus it generally goes to trash. I can get a lot of scrap 2X4's from work, chop saw them to 6 inches into a trash barrel or 10. Fiskers hatchet easily slices them in 10 real quick. Talking about a hot fast fire, this stuff lights up like nobody's business.

How's your 2017 firewood coming along?

Burning 4 year old oak now. Have 50 cord to hold me over till 2027 with all at least 4 years seasoned when I burn it. Next will be some honey locust when I get it. But I'm kinda in lazy cruise control now. It's a very peaceful feeling being ahead.

    Got Wood?

My 2000 chevy 2500 4x4 went to the graveyard in 2007 do to rust. I was happy that both daughters 2002 ford focus's made it till 2015 before subframe disappeared. Still hate throwing away perfectly good running cars, to bad too, those never broke down.

    Got Wood?

Having what seems to be a draft issue

Test. crack window, get fire started and hot, then close window. Sometimes reversing draft needs a nudge of neutralization.

Do they make electric outage alerts

    Measuring Chimney Draft

Thats why a baro is good. Although for a stove a dampener is fine.

    Measuring Chimney Draft

The reading is saying +.05 but that really means -.05 because I have the lead swaped. As you can see the gage can only show down to -.05, so if you swap the lead it will read in the opposite direction giving a much wider scale.

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

In my parts i can run naked through the woods and take a nap in a field, the only thing to worry about is a tick that may have lime disease.
